<karlp> heh, just got asked by a customer, "we see you are using allwinner parts, as they're chinese, aren't you concerned about backdoors and gpl violations?" "umm, no? we don't use their software, linux-sunxi all the way baby!"
<buZz> rofl
<buZz> 'backdoors? ha, its not made in US'
<karlp> backdoors for me, not for thee and all that, yeah
<karlp> nah, it was just "really? you think we're using vendor BSP? "
<buZz> karlp: as if people who ask such questions know about the difference
<karlp> eh, honestly, I'm actually impressed they had enough clue to even reference the 3.4 backdoor
* karlp shrugs. we'll see what comes of it.
<apritzel> though there are still a huge number of people that just stick with the BSP, because that's officially vendor provided. And that includes many board vendors, who should know better
<apritzel> and because no one from the commercial side cares enough about OpenSource, you practically have no other choice for new SoCs
<HackerKkillinghisLGA775cpuPent> yeah
<gamiee> apritzel: to be honest, I tried quite a few BSPs so far, but nothing worked that well and wasn't PITA, than mainline support for AW H3
<karlp> I don't even know where I would get a BSP from, I'm not a big enough customer :)
<HackerKkillinghisLGA775cpuPent> karlp: board vendors
<HackerKkillinghisLGA775cpuPent> some board vendors will give u this
<karlp> yeah, I mean, like this https://github.com/friendlyarm/h3_lichee
<karlp> but. wow, as if I'd ever want to build based on that?!
<karlp> what build environment would you be working in where that was even considered useful for sunxi?
<karlp> yocto/openwrt both have native sunxi, buildroot,
<buZz> karlp: maybe they needed ubuntu14
<buZz> :P
<grming> Hi to all, Im trying to make my own board with the V3s chip and I wanna some references to make connections with the Ethernet. In some pdf I can see resistors and caps are connected between TX+ TX- RX+ RX-to Vcc and Gnd and in others pdf I also see that this resistors are not needed. Which one are correct?
<buZz> likely there's ethernet magnetics that include those resistors and caps
<grming> I use the HR913550A which includes this magnetics
