another thing to check with flaky FEL entry is the power supply: the SoC needs to properly reset for entering FEL mode
<apritzel>
sometimes some leaky UART RX pin, for instance, injects power and prevents a clean reset
<apritzel>
so if in doubt, remove all cables (including the USB-OTG one), then reset with the FEL pin held down, then reconnect the cables (UART and USB)
