Does anyone know if Ubuntu Asahi uses snap packages like regular Ubuntu?
<tobhe[m]>
hi o/
<theasahigirl404>
And if there's a way to decouple Ubuntu Asahi from Snap?
<theasahigirl404>
if it does
<tobhe[m]>
we stick to the defaults so yes it does by default
<theasahigirl404>
aw
<theasahigirl404>
how can I decouple snaps from Ubuntu Asahi then?
<tobhe[m]>
you can probably remove them just like on any other Ubuntu system, don't know how though because I have never tried
<theasahigirl404>
I wanna use Ubuntu Asahi because of Ubuntu's gnome being better than stock gnome but I also don't want to deal with Snap packages because they don't play nice for me
<tobhe[m]>
i think there are plenty of guides online on how to replace the default snaps with debs from other sources. I can't vouch for any of them since it isn't something I have done before. I usually just stick to the defaults because that means better test coverage and support
<theasahigirl404>
Have you experienced issues with the snap packages causing issues with the mesa drivers provided by the Asahi devs?
<tobhe[m]>
That used to be a problem but we have in collaboration with the ubuntu desktop team found a way to make them use our asahi mesa version
<theasahigirl404>
oh wow the Ubuntu team endorses Ubuntu Asahi now?
<theasahigirl404>
Does the Ubuntu GNOME have the same issues as stock gnome with XWayland and scaling?
<tobhe[m]>
I'd say the Ubuntu community has been quite welcoming 🙂
<tobhe[m]>
yes, xwayland and scaling is a problem
<tobhe[m]>
running applications in native wayland mode works better
<theasahigirl404>
Ohh I thought Ubuntu gnome didn't have the scaling issues on Wayland running X apps
