<eslerm[m]> should we limit our support window of Ubuntu releases to 9 months (like interim releases)
<eslerm[m]> upstream moves pretty quickly with dependencies, and jammy support doesn't feel reasonable at this point
<eslerm[m]> I think this would help set expectations, and it could be used in a support matrix graphic
<john-cabaj[m]> I can’t speak to userspace packages, but from a kernel perspective, it’s too much to backport to LTS kernels - especially given Rust support keeps changing.
<john-cabaj[m]> Copying the kernel to a Jammy distribution is easy enough in Launchpad, though.

<kaazoo> Hi folks, when using HDMI-out to connect my external monitor, the Wayland sometimes dies during monitor wake-up from screen blank / lock. This trashes my active Gnome session with all the running applications, which is quite annoying.
<kaazoo> I connected the monitor back to my DisplayLink hub to see if the problem goes away when not using HDMI-out anymore.

<tobhe[m]> kaazoo: I'm afraid I can't help too much with this since I don't have a supported latop to test it, but good to know. Maybe open a bug on github to track this? Might be worth to see if others are seeing the same issue.
<tobhe[m]> <eslerm[m]> "should we limit our support..." <- > <@eslerm:matrix.org> should we limit our support window of Ubuntu releases to 9 months (like interim releases)... (full message at <https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/IOwBZUcxSmTtpjvikNDuCKfC>)
<tobhe[m]> it also adds a lot of testing work since I don't actually use it myself

<eslerm[m]> thanks John and Tobias
<tobhe[m]> worth considering though: if we maintain it just a bit longer we can go from LTS to LTS
<eslerm[m]> I feel like upstream will be less aggressive about dependency updates going forward, since a lot has been implemented already

<eslerm[m]> I'm going to install Jammy and see if battery sleep life is better
<eslerm[m]> (and confirm if this issue is a regression since then)
<tobhe[m]> hm not sure if that helps since the kernel there is barely older
<eslerm[m]> ah, okay
<tobhe[m]> we have a few older images here
<tobhe[m]> how about... kinetic? or maybe the first lunar?
<tobhe[m]> I can set up an installer
<eslerm[m]> setting up an installer would be a big help
<tobhe[m]> actually tobhe.de/ubuntu/install-beta should still have a kinetic option
<tobhe[m]> and a very old lunar
<tobhe[m]> ubuntu-desktop-23.04-20230619.zip
<tobhe[m]> aargh matrix. that is not meant to be an url
<eslerm[m]> I'll try both, overnight runs for each
