haasn, some software does indeed generate ICC profiles from EDID data, and most color experts I've seen to comment on that practise say it's... useless, to say it very politely. But that's about not HDR.
<pq>
haasn, my vague understanding is that it is because of the white point more than the primaries. White point is end-user adjustable in monitors, and usually not reflected in EDID.
<pq>
I guess to make EDID-based ICC profile in any way useful, you'd have to make sure the monitor is in factory-reset state.
<pq>
and then you have the question of what infoframe data you send to the monitor, because those can radically alter the monitor response

how does one reload ~/.XCompose?
<pq>
noze, a good question... maybe triggering a keymap change in your compositor might do it? Not sure if that actually reloads files from disk though.
<pq>
it's to do with the compositor for sure, because the compositor relays the keymaps to apps, and compose data is part of... keymap? or is it?
<emersion>
i don't think it is
<emersion>
hm... not sure tbh
<pq>
isn't compose handled by libxkbcommon?
<emersion>
yep

emersion: btw is there any sort of repository or drmdb-like place to post EDIDs for testing? I know a lot of people with expensive TVs with tons of bells and whistles that could upload them if they would help
<pq>
but of course accumulated over years or decades, so checking if yours is not there yet could be nice
<LaserEyess>
mine is not
<LaserEyess>
hmm
<LaserEyess>
oh, nevermind, I thought these weren't actual EDID dumps but the hex dump is right at the top

I don't know why they have a huge and still incomplete list on the front page...

swimming in the south of France > MRs
<jadahl>
so you're saying if we poke you for review and what not now, we knowingly pull you out of the warm clear waters of southern France to in front of a computer in a dark room?
<ManMower>
you say this like it's concerning in some way.
<ManMower>
I am absolutely ok with it.
<MrCooper>
clear waters maybe, warm is relative though I suspect :)
<jadahl>
"warm enough". it's even warm enough up here in the north to jump into at least the lakes

it’s 33C in Montpellier rn, so err … yeah

jadahl: I won’t get pulled into a dark room, but it will at least give me a to-do on GitLab rather than being in the mail ghetto
