ChanServ changed the topic of #aarch64-laptops to: Linux support for AArch64 Laptops (Asus NovaGo TP370QL - HP Envy x2 - Lenovo Mixx 630 - Lenovo Yoga C630)
<steev> srinik: so, ran into something i haven't before... i visited a website ( don't recall which one, maybe twitter, maybe a kali blog post) in firefox-esr 93, and there was some speaker popping, and then the speakers started getting very warm (it's turned off at the moment)

<ardb> any known issues to be aware of when upgrading from v5.14 to v5.15 on a c630 yoga?
<ardb> the graphical display no longer comes up after show the usual text mode boot messages
<robclark> if you workflow involves olddefconfig, then at some point you need to enable CONFIG_DRM_PANEL_EDP (but I think that is v5.16)
<ardb> robclark: thanks but you seem to be right re v5.16 as that symbol doesn't appear to exist yet)
<robclark> ok, then I guess it is something else on v5.15.. my sc7180 thing was happy with v5.15, but maybe steev or bamse knows about c630..
<steev> ardb: 5.15 works here but i'm using bamse's patches for the backlight control, which kinda makes the 5.14 and 5.15 dtbs incompatible. this is the tree with all the extra patches on top that i'm using - https://github.com/steev/linux/tree/linux-5.15.y
<steev> the clk rcg2 patch will cause the display not to work if you happen to have dmitry's pixel clk defer patch as well
<steev> but i don't recall who all was on the cc list for that patch
<ardb> steev: what is the point of those backlight control patches? mine seems to work fine
<steev> to increase and lower it
<ardb> steev: using the brightness buttons?
<steev> yeah
<ardb> that just works for me already
<steev> hm
<steev> you mean in 5.14? or 5.15?
<ardb> has always worked for me
<steev> do you know which display you have? maybe it works fine on one and not the other?
<ardb> not sure
<ardb> but it looks like the boot issue i have with v5.15 is not related to the backlight - the pixels remain black but there is some backlight glow so the backlight seems to be on
<rfs613> brightness works on mine... using a steev kernel (from a few months ago). not sure how to tell which panel i have
<steev> ardb: do you have ssh enabled? cna you ssh in and look
<ardb> steev: let me try that
<ardb> brb

<steev> well, shit
* gwolf greets world
<gwolf> and formulates a christmas or new-year wish... a bit early, so the world can coalesce on a positive answer ;-)
<gwolf> bamse: Highlighting you, as last I talked with you about this topic...
<gwolf> ...any advances on whether HDMI over USB-C will be supported?
* gwolf crosses fingers
<robclark> just as soon as dp over usb-c is supported :-P
<gwolf> right, of course :-)
<gwolf> video out, I meant... my dongle has HDMI, that's it. But I understand it's my dongle's interface
<bamse> gwolf: i'm trying to rework the patches for 8cx into something acceptable, with that in place the display driver side should be straight forward...
<gwolf> bamse: OK! That's great news as a status report (-:
<bamse> robclark: can't you actually do HDMI over usb-c?
<gwolf> Just keep me in the "children that deserve a nice toy" list
<bamse> robclark: i saw something about that actually being some obscure but supported altmode
<robclark> bamse: right.. once all the bits are in for dp, then hdmi should "just work"(TM)
<bamse> robclark: well, that's DP over usb-c...
<robclark> right
<bamse> robclark: what i saw was a mentioning of them running hdmi signals on the ss lanes, rather than DP
<bamse> robclark: anyway, that's a detail that we'll not bother with ;)
<bamse> robclark: but that side (dp support) is working, just need to wrangle it into something that Heikki will be happy with
<robclark> not sure the physical details, but yeah, it is basically an hdmi signal (so that adapters are cheap/passive)
<bamse> right, in one direction
<gwolf> right, I have a HDMI-DP cable for my desktop, and it does not seem to have anything active
<gwolf> or at least, it must be something very minor
<bamse> you can drive HDMI with DP signal, but not DP with HDMI signal
<bamse> robclark: the bigger part of gwolf's ask is the type-c controller side, that will tell the dp driver when to do stuff
<bamse> robclark: because that's handled by lenovo's custom EC...so we need something very custom there
<robclark> right
<robclark> AFAIU on chromebooks the EC also deals with the TPCP thing.. I guess sboyd knows more about that
<bamse> yeah...but in the 7c one at least you have a gpio with the "hpd" signal that goes straight into the dp controller
<bamse> so the dp controller doesn't know that usb muxing is involved
<bamse> but i don't know if that will turn out to be a problem in the end...trying to rework things into something reasonable
<bamse> while not breaking 7c
