<maz> flowriser: I have the same requirements (for KVM validation), and I ended up building a bunch of scripts. no libvirt, much easier to debug.
<flowriser> maz, do you maybe have an example of such scripts? would be very helpful
<maz> it is pretty hackish, but it does a good job at making things automatic and preserving existing configurations.
<maz> note that this is mostly targetting arm64, though I have used it with x86 and a couple of hacks.
<flowriser> maz, I am also targetting arm64 so it will come in handy! Thank you very much :D
<maz> flowriser: np. I also take patches if you have any change you'd like to see merged! ;-)

<maz> macc24: tried to give cadmium a go a lazor, and it didn't really go as planned.
<maz> on*
<maz> I only got an install script in /root that offered me to install on the emmc, wiped it and then failed.

<maz> macc24: fwiw, here's a log of a failed install: http://www.loen.fr/tmp/screenlog.0
<flowriser> for example on my acer spin 7, I can boot it off of an external hdd
<flowriser> but I cannot boot it off of a flash drive
<flowriser> I have a ssd, that is in an external case thingy with a sata to usb-c adapter
<flowriser> maybe other devices can boot off exdternal hdds too
<flowriser> the weird thing is that once my laptop finds the external hdd with the efi partition it automatically asks me from which hdd to boot; I never seen anything do this automatically
<maz> flowriser: chromebooks are able to boot off USB just fine (no EFI though, unfortunately).

<macc24> maz: i'm re-writing the entire fs/ directory and that takes time, emmc installation isn't done yet
<macc24> and i'm lacking both time and energy to do stuff
<robclark> maz: if it helps, https://docs.google.com/document/d/1orMzRHov3mmMviwwcrNdiINPOG1d0NjjhAMzDq3BiNY/edit?usp=sharing is some instructions for doing upstream things (upstream kernel and/or distro) on qc chromebook
<macc24> NOOOOO robclark why'd you share The Secret(tm)
<macc24> bruh cadmium's mentioned there
<robclark> heh, it isn't really all that s3cr3t.. and really most of it is just pulling together generic "how to linux on arm64 chromebook".. but it is something that a couple of actually ran thru all the steps starting from device that was not in dev mode.. I think dianders even installed cadmium (from arch running on thumb drive, rather than x86 thing.. for an added twist)
<macc24> bruh cadmium's used in semi-serious environments
<macc24> gotta make it not shit
<macc24> soonest i can do any serious development is next thursday, got an exam and an essay to write on a polish lesson on wednesday
<macc24> and also i gotta finish wiring up pci express into my new laptop's dock
