<MrMetal> Hi all I was wondering if anyone here has successfully installed arch linux arm on a lenovo yoga c630 wos. thanks!
<robclark> I believe bamse has
<macc24> imagine not having your linux installer be distro agnostic B-)
<MrMetal> yeah.
<MrMetal> thanks.
<MrMetal> I might be able to use part of the aarch64-laptops github page manual build docs to setup the usb stick for arch linux arm...
<MrMetal> Thank you
<macc24> no prob
<MrMetal> also wondering what kernel is recommended for arch linux arm.. hoping to have sound at least.
<MrMetal> but if not no biggie!
<macc24> if you can get kernel booting and point kernel at the internal emmc where you unpacked archlinuxarm rootfs then it *should* work
<macc24> i don't have any arm machine that boots with efi so i can't help you with that
<MrMetal> ok thank you so much!
<MrMetal> Maybe bamse will be around in a bit
<MrMetal> I have ubuntu setup for dual boot right now but really want to try arch linux arm

bamse_ is now known as bamse
<bamse> MrMetal: yeah i'm running arch linux on all my qualcomm devices
<bamse> MrMetal: i would suggest that you use the same kernel that the debian system uses: https://github.com/aarch64-laptops/debian-cdimage#kernel-upgrade
<bamse> shawnguo, steev: is ^^ kept up to date? or is there a newer kernel than 5.13?
<MrMetal> thank you bamse
<MrMetal> th\
<MrMetal> oops.
<MrMetal> What is your process for getting a bootable usb stick Bamse
<steev> it's laptops-5.15
<steev> for the 5.15 kernel
<MrMetal> Thank you so much for your tips
<bamse> MrMetal: good question, it's probably been a year since i did a laptop last time
<MrMetal> I use grub to dualboot ubuntu and win on my lenovo yoga c630 wos
<MrMetal> thought I'd start by booting up into the usb stick at first
<bamse> MrMetal: i think i used to boot off a usb stick, partition and format my rootfs and follow https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv8/generic
<MrMetal> Thank you very much
<bamse> MrMetal: but i think last time i had that image on the usb stick itself, chrooted into that and then pacstrapped the main storage
<MrMetal> ok great
<MrMetal> Pardon the newbie question but, did you take any steps to ensure the usb stick was bootable after you did the above
<MrMetal> I need to get the keyboard replaced on this machine..question mark button is acting up
<bamse> once you get the system installed you need qmic, rmtfs, pd-mapper and tqftpserver to get wifi...you can find packages here https://github.com/andersson/arch-packages
<MrMetal> thank you very much
<bamse> hmm, no i don't think i did anything special with my usb stick...
<bamse> but steev has fought that battle much more recently than me
<bamse> i still boot off the usb stick i partitioned/formatted when i first got my hands on the c630
<MrMetal> ah ok great
<MrMetal> I'll try it out tonight
<bamse> MrMetal: there's supposedly some restriction when it comes to size of the stick
<MrMetal> ooh..I have a 128gb sandisk usb 3.0
<MrMetal> also a 32gb usb sandisk
<MrMetal> appreciate your tips and help
<MrMetal> I'll rtm about the usb stick size restriction
