<wiley[m]>
So I was here a while back reporting that my Thinkpad X13s kept having random wifi adapter hangs
<wiley[m]>
just wanted to report that when I disable 6GHz on my wifi AP, the problem goes away
<wiley[m]>
I had the same network on both 5GHz and 6GHz, so my guess is that the 6GHz support in the x13s is just broken and it was trying to roam from 5GHz to 6GHz and failing

steev: Sorry, I missed that. Yes, they're d/p/features/all/{kali-wifi-injection,wireless-carl9170-Enable-sniffer-mode-promisc-flag-t}.patch
<steev>
ah, we(kali) do maintain those already
<noisycoil[m]>
Yes, but they must be applied on top of the asahi/bananas kernel
<noisycoil[m]>
I.e. on top of the other 1.2k :-)
<noisycoil[m]>
And the kernel must be rebuilt at every release
<noisycoil[m]>
So it's an easy job, but someone must do it

<JensGlathe[m]>
you need the hardware to test it, too
<JensGlathe[m]>
Haven't tested on the Thinkbook 16 yet, probably today
<JensGlathe[m]>
It sounds like X1-45 gpu may not be supported yet, although you never see anything about that in the dt
<maz>
craftyguy: nothing such as slbounce. the OS always boots at EL2, and since there is no EL3 to get in the way, things are pretty smooth. the HW, on the other hand, is pretty funky.
<SpieringsAE>
JensGlathe: jeah from what I understand from the patches the gpu is not supported yet
<SpieringsAE>
" The most notable differences from our softwarePoV are a different GPU (support for which will be added later).."
<SpieringsAE>
haha, the asus gets pretty loud in windows too
<SpieringsAE>
alarms devtools package being 3 years old is really starting to mess with me

46m30s (Purwa) vs 35m (x1e7800) vs 30m (x1e001de)
<JensGlathe[m]>
which is quite ok
<JensGlathe[m]>
72m on sc8280xp (wdk2023)
<SpieringsAE>
that is not as much slower as I expected I guess
<JensGlathe[m]>
it sounds pretty efficient
<JensGlathe[m]>
virtualized, so some penalty there

can someone comment on if the oled screens are worth it? how does it compare to retina screen? I'm mainly thinking about scrolling pdfs and reading ebooks?
<SpieringsAE>
I like the oled on mine, what I don't like is the very glossy screen
alfredo has joined #aarch64-laptops
<\[m]>
did you use retina screen before
<SpieringsAE>
ah its an apple thing, in that case no idea

<Sukiru[m]>
The pwm flicker is pretty clear for me unless I boost the brightness and go to a well lit area π
<Sukiru[m]>
Things that bothered me the most are trackpad intermittently not functioning, consistent video stutters, and keyboard lighting on boot being off.

<Sukiru[m]>
Also, I've a matte protector, so then the screen isn't glossy.
<\[m]>
<SpieringsAE> "ah its an apple thing, in that..." <- I think it's similar quality fyi
<\[m]>
Sukiru[m]: but the screen feels fluid af still? that's smart
<Sukiru[m]>
Yeah, it prevents glare notably better than a matte screen while having better image quality than LCD, so it is a win on all fronts. Still, you can see the grain compared to glossy-only.
<Sukiru[m]>
Applying it properly can be a bit troublesome π .

<Sukiru[m]> "Applying it properly can be a..." <- ah yes it's not removable
<\[m]>
I was referring to t14s yes
<\[m]>
with 6.13 out and finances improving maybe next month
<\[m]>
I'm doubting
<JensGlathe[m]>
I declared the T14s out of reach
<\[m]>
I'm still hoping it somehow gets a hard-core price cut lol

too successful as it seems. just not with Windows

<JensGlathe[m]>
Huh
<JensGlathe[m]>
The Thinkbook 16 comes up into initramfs, but it boots - Purwa boots
<JensGlathe[m]>
apparrently the smb2360 eUSB2 repeaters don't get initialized, and iirc that's a breaking change late in 6.13 - nice.
<JensGlathe[m]>
Since I booted from type-c drive this isn't surprising then
<\[m]>
you have the t14s with X Plus X1P-42-100 now
<JensGlathe[m]>
sorta, yeah
<JensGlathe[m]>
a little cheaper, though
<JensGlathe[m]>
and heavier
<JensGlathe[m]>
and 16" screen
<JensGlathe[m]>
different kb, not black, but still quite nice
<JensGlathe[m]>
and way cheaper#
<JensGlathe[m]>
I paid 800 for 1920x1200, 32GB, 1TB
<JensGlathe[m]>
with drive on type-a it boots further
