<anthony25>
nice, waybar released a new version with my fix for the battery module, so the battery runtime estimation should work correctly with qcom_battmgr now
<anthony25>
it was broken due to the sysfs file "power_now" being negative when discharging
<anthony25>
I submitted a patch for powertop and acpi-client to do the same
<anthony25>
though the last release of acpi-client being from 2013 gives me not much hope :p

is there any fix for making the microphone work under pipewire on the x13s
<enyalios_>
i switch to pulse, and the microphone now works but the whole audio situation now has a bunch of other bugs and idiosyncrasies that are more annoying than a messed up microphone
<craftyguy>
I heard some additional kernel stuff is needed for pw to work

After dd the .img onto /dev/sdn I expected the drive to appear so that I can chroot into it and set up grub, but the drive does not appear mountable.

Any suggestions?

Haven't checked in a bit, but iirc the 3.5mm jack still distorts over a certain volume percentage
<jhovold>
I remember us discussing that, but isn't that expected and depends on what you connect on the other end?
<jhovold>
At line level you don't want to amplify the signal, for example.
<Jasper[m]>
jhovold: It wasn't no
<Jasper[m]>
It happened at around 30% when using pw, 60% on pa

<JensGlathe[m]> "sdc17 sounds like some odd-ish..." <- I don't know what all the windows partitions are. I just created free space on the C: partition.
<teadaniel[m]>
I got the two partitions on the disk and tried to boot into Ubuntu.
<teadaniel[m]>
There is a bunch of scrolling text, then it reboots into Windows.
<Jasper[m]>
I also connected an extremely hard to drive headphone, the exact same issue arose just at a lower physical volume (as in how loud the cans are, not the percentage I set up on the x13s)
<jhovold>
Jasper[m]: is that with a pair of headphones or external active speakers?
<Jasper[m]>
headphones/earbuds
<Jasper[m]>
Trying 100% did not change anything (on the hard to drive headphones, I like my ears and earbuds to not explode :P)
<jhovold>
I remember testing with two different headphones here when I fixed the codec drivers and ucm files, but sounds like there may be room for further tweaks then
<Jasper[m]>
If there's anything specific to test let me know
<Jasper[m]>
Kernel patches will need some setting up on my end though
<jhovold>
thanks, not sure when I'll have time for looking at that again, but I've made a note of it

<Jasper[m]>
I need to set up a build environment anyway since I want to unsplat the panel hahahah
<steev>
teadaniel[m]: it's a filesystem image, it shouldn't be written to a partition, but to the device. if the usb device is /dev/sdc then it should be written with `of=/dev/sdc` not `of=/dev/sdc17`
<steev>
and i don't think you can write it to 2 separate partitions on the nvme drive
<teadaniel[m]>
steev: Thanks, I got it figured out.

* Just got ThinkPad T14s G6 Snapdragon X Elite 32GB yesterday, it's not very difficult to install oracular-desktop-arm64+x1e-20250215.iso , only one minor issue\[1\].

Then I tried glmark2-wayland, it hangs there. I forced a power-off, and the machine can't boot linux any more today, after F12 to select "ubuntu".

maz: I added it to my branch a week ago or so, it's also in linux-next now merged for 6.15.

but what I wanted to express that on recent oracular I actually had to stop pressing F12 to get it booted
<maz>
jhovold: I wonder if this watchdog is an actual HW block, or a device emulated by Gunyah. that'd explain the crash whilst tickling the device when booted at EL2.
<jhovold>
yeah, I believe it's emulated
<maz>
it'd be good to have a note to that effect when adding emulated devices to the DT, so that people who insist on not enjoying the Gunyah value-add can identify what they are leaving behind...
<jhovold>
indeed, I only found out after someone tried EL2, but presumably qcom knew

jhovold maz i don't think it is, but will try to investigate..
<maz>
konradybcio: if it isn't an emulated device, it'd be good to understand why kuruczgy[m] fails to boot at EL2.

sre: so there are two problems w.r.t. backlight on t14s than need addressing: 1. the period needs to be reported back to the pwm_bl (as you suggested), but the only way to do that is to call pwm_get_state_hw on probe right after pwm_apply_might_sleep, in order to read back the actual period
<abelvesa>
sre: 2. when looping through the pwm register configs to determine best ones, resolution in the formula needs to be ((1 << pwm_size) - 1) instead of just (1 << pwm_size)
<abelvesa>
with this 2 fixed, we should have pwm working properly
<abelvesa>
TBH, the pwm generic framework should allow the state to be modified on pwm_apply_might_sleep by the provider driver, but that is just my 2 cents on how pwm generic framework should work

abelvesa: That sounds sensible to me. I suggest adding ukleinek@kernel.org and linux-pwm@vger.kernel.org to Cc in the next submission and it might even be sensible be add those two to the MAINTAINERS entry for that driver.

hmm, the usb-connector yaml states: "It should be a child of a USB interface controller or..."
<SpieringsAE>
but when I add a connector {} node as a child of a usb controller dtb check gives me errors
<SpieringsAE>
it says the connector should only be a seperate node if it is connected to both a mux and a usb controller. Which is not the case

LiangQi[m]: no issues w/ glmark2-wayland here (yoga 7x, so x1e-78 instead of x1e-80... I think x1e-80 has a higher opp, so maybe if something is wrong in the ubuntu kernel with ACD (needed to high higher gpu clocks) or icc bandwidth scaling, that could be related)

enyalios_ is now known as enyalios
<enyalios>
jhovold: it just behaves in ways i dont expect, i dont like having a separate volume for each app, i just one one global one so that turning up the volume actually turns up the volume and dont have to figure out if i need the global volume up or the application volume
<enyalios>
setting flat-volume is supposed to fix that but then any time i play a video in firefox or even pause one or switch tabs, it sets the global volume back to 100% which is incredibly annoying
<enyalios>
this is apparently some bugged interaction between firefox and pulse that has an open bug from 5 years ago that is still unfixed :-/

@tobhe_ Thanks for your response over at launchpad on 6.14.0-14 not working on slim 7x
<hogliux>
Indeed, it works if I use the dtb of 6.14.0-13. Any idea why GPU thermal throttling doesn't work on slim 7x?
<hogliux>
I experience random hard reboots when I stress the GPU which I think would be solved by the GPU throttling
<hogliux>
Also it seems like the EC driver no longer works on the slim 7x. This was already with 6.14.0-13. Not sure from which version onward it stopped working.
<hogliux>
I can upload a patch to launchpad to put the EC driver back in if that would help you
