is there anything that can be done to improve the battery time? I have worked ~3 hours now and have 35% battery left. mpb 14, Linux ncopa-mbp14 6.2.0-rc3-7-asahi #1-Alpine SMP PREEMPT Wed, 25 Jan 2023 13:07:25 +0000 aarch64 Linux
<ncopa>
or is that normal?

<ncopa>
i have done 5-6 git clones over non-optimal wifi and rebuild kernel 5-6 times, and thats it basically
<ncopa>
its down to 25% battery now
<tobhe_>
my m2 air lasts a lot longer. do you have the graphics driver/dcp enabled? If not, that is something you could try
<ncopa>
12% now
<ncopa>
how do i check if i have dcp enabled?
<j`ey>
it's in your kernel config
<j`ey>
there's probably a way to check in sysfs or so, dunno off the top of my head
<j`ey>
(or in dmesg I guess)
<ncopa>
[ 7632.536934] apple-dcp 38bc00000.dcp: Woke up
<ncopa>
i guess i have apple-dcp
<jannau>
energy use on the m1 pro/max notebooks
<jannau>
is considerably higher than on the m1 and m2
<ncopa>
8% now
<ncopa>
i guess kernel compile drains it
<ncopa>
i need to find a place with power

ncopa: try to set cpu freq governor to SCHEDUTIL
<mps>
maybe it could help to some degree
<mps>
though I didn't tested it much
<mps>
maybe even conservative is better than ondemand

looks like the alpine linux-asahi kernel used ondemand cpu freq governor while asahi linux's pkgbuild uses shedutil
<mps>
well, shedutil is not much better on battery saving, maybe to some degree but I never seen any significant difference
<mps>
I started linux-asahi with performance but on request from the user switched to ondemand because performance makes air models too hot
<mps>
now I'm experimenting with shedutil
<ncopa>
same, i think we should switch to schedutil by default
<mps>
I'm ok with this
<mps>
anyway, most are enabled and could be set by users on boot, or later during work
