<mashrafi> chadmed: I have run `update-m1n1`. What else is missing?
chadmed has joined #asahi-alt
<chadmed> mashrafi: paste the output of asahi-diagnose somewhere and link it
<chadmed> from the outset im going to assume youve done something nonstandard because everything Just Works(tm) with the ebuilds in the overlay
<chadmed> i dogfood all of this stuff thoroughly before pushing it
<mashrafi> chadmed: http://sprunge.us/eGUzBO
<chadmed> the asahi driver is not loaded
<chadmed> so you have not built your kernel properly
<mashrafi> hmm
<chadmed> make sure youve got CONFIG_DRM_ASAHI=m
<chadmed> and CONFIG_RUST=y
<chadmed> just "having" rust is not enough
<mashrafi> apparently i did not enable the drm module =(
<chadmed> also mitigations=off does nothing here afaik
<mashrafi> okay
<chadmed> also make sure your VIDEO_CARDS use expand has "asahi" in it
<mashrafi> it does
<chadmed> awesome
<mashrafi> other than that i followed a guide to get rust for linux configured on gentoo
<chadmed> yeah, as long as CONFIG_RUST appears in menuconfig then you should be good to go
<mashrafi> yeah, i have that set too.
<mashrafi> thanks
<mashrafi> hopefully this works
<chadmed> let me know if it does

<mashrafi> chadmed: While the GPU is working well with KDE if I start it with `startplasma-wayland`, I cannot seem to start SDDM at all, even after restarting. Moreover, after suspending, KDE cannot log me in, even though my password is correct. Do you have any fixes?

<chadmed> the ssdm thing is probably xorg related. theres a fix for that swimming around in the PKGBUILDs repo i think but i have negative interest in xorg so i havent bothered to look into it
<chadmed> re suspend, do you get the warning that the screen locker is broken?
<chadmed> s/ssdm/sddm
mashrafi_ has joined #asahi-alt
<mashrafi> no, it just says `Unlocking failed`.
<chadmed> no idea then sorry. seems like a password issue
<mashrafi> =\
<mashrafi> anyway, it's fine.
<mashrafi> can you get the headphone jack working?
<chadmed> the headphone jack doesnt need any extra config
<mashrafi> but it doesn't work for me
<chadmed> then again youve not configured your kernel properly
<mashrafi> it didn't work on arch linux either
<chadmed> which machine do you have
<mashrafi> m1 macbook air
<chadmed> try moving the folder /usr/share/alsa/ucm2/conf.d/macaudio somewhere else and then reboot your computer
<mashrafi> that directory does not exist
<chadmed> interesting. your jack should work then
<mashrafi> should i merge alsa-ucm-conf-asahi?
<chadmed> what do you mean by "doesnt work" though
<chadmed> as in it doesnt appear at all in kde?
<mashrafi> it does, but sound does not come out of my headphones
<chadmed> its probably muted in alsamixer lol
<chadmed> merge alsa-ucm-conf-asahi and reboot
<mashrafi> oh
<mashrafi> okay
<chadmed> it should work with cs42l83 machines
<chadmed> do you use pulse or pipewire
mashrafi_ has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<mashrafi> pulseaudio

<chadmed> yeah you should be fine to use alsa-ucm-conf-asahi then
<mashrafi> but i can't hear any sound from my headphones after merging it and rebooting
<chadmed> can you paste your dmesg somewhere
<mashrafi> okay
<chadmed> yeah check alsamixer, its probably muted
<chadmed> Jack DAC should be set to 63 for good results
<mashrafi> alsamixer belongs to `dev-haskell/alsa-mixer`, right?
<chadmed> no
<chadmed> media-sound/alsa-utils
<mashrafi> oh
<mashrafi> huh, just adding the `alsasound` init script to boot runlevel and rebooting fixed it somehow.
<mashrafi> thanks!
