<flokli> marcan: I did update to asahi-6.5-15, m1n1 1.4.2, asahi-fwextract 0.6.8, and got a very grayscale-y picture with green lines. I did splice in appleh13camerad into all_firmware.tar.gz ran the firmware extraction script and rebooted, hoping it'd make things look better, but it didn't change. That's an m2 air

<flokli> image taken with cheese: https://imgur.com/a/r0x7dJo
<flokli> hmmh, webcamtests.com doesn't show these artifacts, but shows color. so maybe it's just cheese being bad?
<stintel> kamoso worked for me on m2 air 15"
<stintel> or try with ffmpeg if you have it installed
<flokli> jitsi in the browser also looks fine. maybe it's just cheese
<janneg> flokli: which capture resolution does cheese use? There are quite a few programs that don't handle line padding correctly which is used by some resolutions (primarily the vertical video resolutions)
<flokli> janneg: it seems it selected 1440x1920
<flokli> I can also select 1920x1440, and then it looks normal
<janneg> that's the issue then. it will happen on all resolutions where the width is not an multiple of 64
<leio> flokli: want to check with raw gstreamer? gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src ! videoconvert ! autovideosink
<leio> and different resolutions with something like gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src ! video/x-raw,width=1440,height=1920 ! videoconvert ! autovideosink

<ah-> flokli: there's been some discussion on that in asahi-dev a few days ago, it's a userspace bug of not handling vertical resolutions right

<flokli> leio: Seems to work with raw gstremer
<flokli> The command without explicit resolution selection seems to also pick 1440x1920 by default though
<flokli> If I explicitly use width=1920 and height=1440, it shows either a very small video window, or stays stuck
<flokli> But yeah, in any case, the grayscale and green lines are gone
<leio> interesting what cheese manages to break then, it uses gstreamer, afterall.
<leio> cheese isn't really maintained though, there's GNOME snapshot now

<flokli> leio: gnome snapshot doesn't allow to influence the video resolution at all, but it indeed works out of the box
<leio> I guess it might be a clutter-gst bug, which is archived and not maintained; snapshot wouldn't be using that
<flokli> https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/commit/ecbfab132896c26a59b71d7fc78fdeaa5b9b3667 already pulls in that patch to clutter-gst, so it's another issue. But yeah, seems the foundation cheese runs on has some holes (scnr)
