<krbtgt>
i think the work is prob a nice installer, overlay, and binpkgs for asahi gentoo
Race has joined #asahi-dev
<sam_>
the binpkgs are definitely doable now we have some infra for it and overlay wouldn't be a stretch at all, installer would probably be the only thing to think about
<chadmed>
sam_: peep the links j`ey sent, ive already got an overlay and an installer
<sam_>
I was still deep in the overlay :)
<sam_>
excellent
<chadmed>
binpkgs is another story i dont really have the infrastructure to host or the time to keep on top of building those
<sam_>
we already have some official infra we're playing with for binpkgs
<sam_>
the new binpkg format will bring some improvements too as we can sign them now
<chadmed>
oh sick well thats pretty much everything
<sam_>
yeah installer was the main thing i was anxious about but if you've got that sorted..
<sam_>
(not that overlay is trivial, but I mean I wouldn't even know where to start with an installer)
<krbtgt>
i wonder if asahi could be good for gentoo too - provide a good testbed for user friendliness QoL changes
<chadmed>
yeah the tldr if you dont wanna read through the script is that i pull the squashfs out of the arm64 install cd, inject our kernel modules, wrap it in an initramfs and then add an option to grub as installed by asahi to boot it like its a standard arm64 cd
<chadmed>
then once youve got a stage3 extracted you merge git and clone the repo again and run another script that sets up the overlay, m1n1, u-boot and builds a known-good kernel and initramfs
<chadmed>
the rest is completely as written in the amd64 handbook though which was an intentional design choice
<chadmed>
the previous guy maintaining gentoo support had some weird chrooting scheme going on from asahi which did not feel very gentoo-y
<sam_>
who was that btw? i know you (hi!) but not sure who the previous person was

marcan: I'm a bit puzzled by your use of the DATA_RX8 in the Linux dockchannel driver
<kettenis>
as far as I can tell, that register uses bit 0-7 for some sort of status that includes the number of available bytes in the FIFO in bit 0-6
<kettenis>
the actual data byte seems to be in bit 8-15

kettenis: right, hence the >> 8
<marcan>
is there something wrong?
<marcan>
jannau_: oh?
<marcan>
sam_: "moving to fedora" just means I'm going to be doing the work getting the Fedora port up to standard and talking to upstream...
<kettenis>
marcan: nothing, I can't read
<marcan>
... but if someone else does that for Gentoo I'd have no qualms shipping that too :)
<kettenis>
(although in my defense the line wraps just beore the >> 8 ;)

<jannau_>
keeping just one (untested) kernel binary is so the opposite of desired a/b full system updates that there's little which could convince me it is a well thought out system
jannau_ is now known as jannau
<jannau>
the question why arch linux arm still exists is there as well
<marcan>
yeah, the single kernel binary thing is a convenient thing for us due to DT pairing, but... not the best design

Is there any way that I can help with the audio issue of not being able to use stereo with the built in mini speaker? I have some programming experience with various languages and want to learn more while helping out. Currently running Asahi on my M1 machine.
<kode54>
but there's only one speaker?
<kode54>
software should be downmixing for it
<freakinamazing[m]>
Copy, thank you. I am asking because I noticed that the audio at the moment sounds very low and scratchy. Also, the inability to connect to my bluetooth speaker makes me want to fix it more.

Disregard about the volume part. I guess I just missed the setting somehow when I was looking at all of the audio settings.
<Dcow[m]>
also, there is Bluetooth support in current asahi branch
<freakinamazing[m]>
Upped the master volume in pulse audio and it fixed that.
<j`ey>

Dcow's message appears blank for me.

I am able to see the message by going to the logs link for this channel. I am probably just doing something wrong. Sorry for bothering everyone...

Swapping to the #_oftc_#asahi:matrix.org room for this since it is no longer a dev conversation.
