<jannau> sven: have you used trace_dcp.py on a laptop with your epic changes? endpoint 0x2c blows up in handle_reply with an EPICCmd which doesn't look like one
<jannau> rxbuf/txbuf don't like a dva and rxlen/txlen are random looking large values
<jannau> otherwise I see a single report/notify with "backlight-calibration-paramters" in it on that endpoint
<jannau> I'm looking into display brightness control but I have no idea how that's realized
<jannau> it doesn't appear to be handled on dcpep/iomfb (0x37). All I see there is surface swap immediately followed what appears to be feedback from a brighness change
<jannau> Any idea what "function-pcc_update = 362:PCCU()" in the disp0 node could be? 362 is the phandle of the backlight node.

<Jamie[m]> are there any known usb bugs in old versions of m1n1 that would persist after chainloading a newer versions?
<Jamie[m]> i'm constantly having EP stalls and UartTimeouts with not quite enough bytes
<Jamie[m]> and my first stage is 5 months old so i'm grasping at straws trying to find something i can do to make proxyclient reliable lol
<Jamie[m]> (or does everyone have these problems?)
<jannau> I don't see how they would persist after chainloading. I have no problems, only time I see UartTimeouts is when something bad has happened on the system, i.e. after a macos panic for example
<Jamie[m]> yeah okay, that reaffirms my assumption that my host system is just somehow bad at usb
<j`ey> Jamie[m]: Ive struggled with this at random times.. sometimes it worked fine for days, and then just stopped working for hours
<Jamie[m]> glad i'm not completely alone in it haha

<mps> ChaosPrincess: also tested kbd backlight patch on m1 mbp (j293) with asahi-wip, works fine
<ChaosPrincess> cool, thats also what i tested it on, but i applied it to asahi branch
<mps> fine work, ty
<mps> even wrote small perl script to dim backlight on timeout
<mps> as a POC
<ChaosPrincess> now we just need to have touchbar so it is easier to control on m1 mbp :P
<mps> now for me missing part is display brightness
<ChaosPrincess> thats dcp, and not a separate thingy, and in dcp lies madness
<sven> jannau: no, only tested it with my Mac mini
<sven> amarioguy: SEP IPC should be backwards compatible since you can’t downgrade its firmware which is shared across all installs
<sven> and yeah, I can confirm that DCP contains lots of madness
<jannau> as I wrote above. I currently have no idea how macos controls the brightness. All I see currently in tracing is a surface swap and then callbacks from dcp which look like results of the brightness change
<jannau> nothing obvious in swap_surface struct which could be the display brightness
<jannau> still worth to looking closer at the swap_surface struct

<amarioguy> hrm seems like the tracer's choking on [cpu0] [SEPTracer@/arm-io/sep] [boot254] > SendScratchMem: 0071c000
<amarioguy> takes two positional args when 3 were given (still not exactly the most familiar with the tracer infrastructure, might need to play with it a bit more on my end)

<ChaosPrincess> so, i figured out how nvram works, and have a python-based parser/serializer for the variables. What would be the proper way to expose it in linux, clone efivars filesystem?
<j`ey> there's an nvmem subsytem, probably that?
<ChaosPrincess> nvmem is a byte array, while i want to expose key-value
<sven> it’s inside that nor flash, isn’t it?
<sven> I‘d probably just write a userspace program tbh

<amarioguy> wow i am encountering a lot of pagefaults and exceptions when booting xnu under the m1n1 hypervisor (this is both release and development btw)
<amarioguy> seems to be an issue with CLPC?
goldsoultheory has joined #asahi-dev
<sven> does the kernelcache match the installer macOS?
<jannau> yeah! I'm doing something that DCP doesn't like and but it doesn't crash. trying to add support for YUV pixelformats and it reports underruns
<sven> and just to be sure: you are using a full macOS install where you replaced the kernel manually with m1n1, aren’t you?
<amarioguy> sven: yes to both, i can send a scrollback if you want
<amarioguy> (12.3.1 is the fw version if that's of help)
