If its a standard macos install just set it as the boot disk, put it back into full security then update it

Yeah what im saying is you might be able to grab the 12.3 ipsw and pass it in via apple configurator without destroying the data on the disk, ignoring the update pkg entirely which i didnt even realise they still ship

oh... this is really annoying. When you run the "installAssistant.pkg" all it does is install an offline installer (about 30mb). Then when you run that, you just get the latest version from online

the behavour must have changed at some point? I remember installing 12.1 using installAssistant just fine. Maybe I used another method?

ah, when you install the full-installer via software update, it appares to do one extra step.

it extracts the SoftwareSupport.dmg and puts it inside the application bundle. And then the installer magically starts working as an offline installer
