<t> what is asahi lina's setup for gpu re? host m1 and usb to connect to intel macbook?
<eiln> you can watch her streams, but any linux (or even macos) host with a usb-c between will do.
<eiln> checkout https://github.com/AsahiLinux/docs/wiki if you haven't

<chadmed_> marcan: -dev was/is necessary to create a ramdisk for building the root image for the installer using brd. if we could get brd in the default kernel config like it used to be i can drop -dev as a requirement. i try to test every release to make sure nothing breaks but i mustve missed something, sorry

<jannau> eiln: RE ane power-domains. does it use more than 1 power-domain directly? if so it needs special handling in the driver. see apple_nvme_attach_genpd in drivers/nvme/host/apple.c for an example
<jannau> I haven't found a devicetree patch to add the ane node in that repo. do you have it somewhere else?
<jannau> if the power-domain issue is fixed it should be safe to add that to the asahi tree even if you keep working on the driver as out of tree module
<chadmed> did any of our brcmfmac changes land upstream recently?

<marcan> chadmed: um, this is the first I hear about brd? That's not one of the options we change in -edge...
<ChaosPrincess> marcan: would you mind looking again at the z2 series? with my luck with interacting with kernel people i kinda expect it to take forever, so want to get stuff reviewed by asahi team before sending it upstream
<jannau> BLK_DEV_RAM is built as module in the normal and edge kernel of asahi and asahi-dev. I think it's just a forgotten thing from a long time ago. maybe we added that option and the kernel was initially just available in asahi-dev

<sven> alright, the DPIN thing dosn't look too bad
<sven> i just see a few register writes when plugging in a thunderbolt display
<jannau> sven: I have a rebases dp-altmode-wip but it's still partially busted since I switched to 13.2 / M2 dcp
<sven> ah, nice! I just want to trace DPIN in a bit because I don't feel like getting rid of all the thunderbolt duct tape just yet ;)
<sven> atcphy also changed a bit for thunderbolt fwiw
<jannau> https://github.com/jannau/linux/tree/asahi-6.2-rc3-7_dp-altmode-wip with incomplete WIP changes for runtime PM and debugging patches for typec
<jannau> should work at least once
<jannau> I don't think it has changes in atcphy
<sven> :D
<sven> I still think we should try to just write a custom dwc3 driver that mostly calls into the core driver but takes care of the shutdown/restart itself based on typec-mux instead of role-switch
<sven> especially with the altmode and usb4 transitions we have now
<jannau> runtime PM breaks after the first unplug since dptx is ignored
<jannau> if you think that the reset handling will work better with a separate dwc3 driver, go for it. I didn't look into that
<sven> I was hoping to volunteer someone else for that :D
<sven> but i'll eventually get to it

<jannau> dptx is apparently not required for getting hdmi on m2 to work, at least I don't see it used in traces
<jannau> err, no. I think that's m1 traces

<chadmed_> marcan: i asked about it last month https://oftc.irclog.whitequark.org/asahi-dev/search?q=brd
<chadmed_> but i think i noticed it drop out of the config before that
<chadmed_> interestingly i cant find a commit in the PKGBUILD config where CONFIG_BLK_RAM was changed, so idk why it wasnt probing with the stable kernel
