Anyone here know how to fix Software update registering password as incorrect even though it’s not?

has someone the base imac model without ethernet? I completely missed that ethernet uses PCI. Apple has just one ADT for j456 (imac with 2 usb ports)
<jannau>
I wonder how the potentially missing ethernet adapter or port is handled
darkapex3 has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<sven>
so the base model just has two usb-c ports and not even a single usb a port?
<kettenis>
yes; the machines come with a bluetooth keyboard isn't it?
<kettenis>
jannau: I believe the ethernet port will work on the base model if you upgrade the power supply
<jannau>
that's what I suspect too based on the $30 extra for ethernet. I guess macos knows the charger type and hides the ethernet interface
<kettenis>
I suspect that without the proper power supply the interface will still work but you'll never get a link
<kettenis>
btw, the model with just two usb-c ports is j457

<jannau>
indeed, thanks. I'm preparing atm dts files for all t8103 models
<j_ey>
sven has also been working on device tree updates
<sven>
urgh... i just realized that i probably messed up the i2c compatible in the bindings. it should've been "apple,t8103-i2c", "apple,i2c" but right now you can only either do "apple,t8103-i2c" or "apple,i2c"
<sven>
j_ey: yeah, i just have some commits to add the i2c, cd321x and usb nodes but they're all blocked on getting the apple,dwc3 bindings in
torstenvl has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<sven>
but i'm also happy if someone else just submits those :D
<kettenis>
the dtschema checks didn't catch that?
<sven>
the example in there just has "apple,t8103-i2c" :/
<jannau>
so far I've just added dts files all models so there should be no conflict with adding more HW support

should the node for the ethernet mac address be "ethernet0: ethernet@0,0" instead of "ethernet0: pci@0,0"? make dtbs_check complains about missing pci properties

<jeffmiw>
jannau: it will be great to have those dts for all models pushed in m1n1 so we can use them before having them merged in the linux tree
<jannau>
please test if you have a M1 macbook or imac. there will not much change on the macbooks. wifi/bluetooth will be only available after it's turned on via smc
<jannau>
the imacs should gain ethernet support and maybe the non-thunderbolt usb-c ports. not sure how functional they are without the usb-c pd controller
<jeffmiw>
jannau: great, thanks, I'll give it a try later today
<sven>
imho we should only add device trees to m1n1 after they've at least been reviewed on the mailing lists
<sven>
otherwise we might end up with devicetrees on people's machines that have some issues and then we might get into trouble keeping backwards compatibility
<sven>
also, wait, the iMacs have non-thunderbolt usb-c ports?
<sven>
i guess those are then driven by the xhci controller that drives the usb-a ports on the mini?
<jannau>
yes, the 4 usb-c port model j456 has a ASM3142
<jannau>
no, different controller
<sven>
but still connected over pci-e
<sven>
?
<jannau>
yes
<sven>
at least i'd expect them to just work then
<jannau>
even the same port
<jannau>
they have cd3217 too and I'm not sure if we initialize them
<sven>
huh
<sven>
do you have the ADT somewhere?
<jannau>
j456 adt has for hpms with ports named right, right-middle, left-middle and left
<sven>
hm, intersting. at least i hope just initializing those chips should be enough to make the ports work
<jannau>
m1n1 will initializing them as side effect of the extended usb iodev support. the ti chips are initialized independently of the platform usb-c ports
<sven>
nice
<sven>
we'll have to add them to the DT once we also add the ones for the usb-c ports though because they all share a single interrupt
<jannau>
yes, otherwise we will run into the same spurios irq issues macos was under the hv with one usb-c port
<sven>
at least linux should just disable the interrupt eventually
