<landscape15[m]> matthewayers: Honestly, I don’t like having a web UI application on a desktop OS (it seems to me an ad pop up). And it’s a problem the fact that Apple is considering the macOS recovery as a minimal OS, always accessible.

<klaus> could we expect a new blog post, progress report in december? last one is from september. anyone knows if it's in the pipe, if that have been discussed yet ?
<klaus> github wiki tasklist for asahi doesn't seem to get much updates either, was there any major road block lately ?
chamomile has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<kettenis> no, we just focus on getting stuff done instead on reporting ;)
<klaus> kettenis: that's good too, just harder to follow, maybe the problem is that those progress report are too nice, too verbose and take too long to make ?
<klaus> so how could i know what was done lately ?
<Dcow_> you can watch the marcan's streams and follow the github.
<Dcow_> this chat and -dev one also pretty informational
<klaus> tasklist on wiki might be faster to update rather than lengthy blog post (not that i dislike them on the contrary, but i imagine they are a pain to make and time consuming)
<klaus> kettenis: thanks for the link!
<kettenis> and of course the earlier months
<kettenis> if you search for threads with apple in the subject you pretty much catch everything that is relevant
<klaus> Dcow_: marcan's asahi github is a bit hard to follow since the commits are made in various branches/repos
<klaus> but what kettenis said should do nicely
<Dcow_> well, yeah, but no one is promised that's will be easy ;)

<landscape15[m]> Dcow_: Maybe, but the docs section is very well explained, and it’s not too complicated.
<sven> https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/?q=apple will probably find most mailing list threads

<klaus> i think i like this one better, it's easier to look at

<opticron> klaus, note that the task list on the wiki is for upstreamed items, not in-development code
<opticron> though I sure wouldn't mind a more granular status there than yes or no as to whether it's upstreamed

<sven> marcan: btw. what do you think about creating a asahi linux mailing list? would make lives of people who test and/or want to review easier

<as400> sven: wouldn't it be better to have some kind of forums ? So it's easy searchable for anyone ?
<sven> uh, no, not for things we submit to the linux mailing list
<j_ey> as400: that wouldnt work for the usual kernel patch flow
<as400> ok - fair enough
yuyichao has joined #asahi
<matthewayers[m]> I think a mailing list and corresponding blog posts would make a lot of sense
<marcan> sven: yeah, I need to look into that again
<marcan> the progress update will happen (2-month one), probably next week

<as400> btw - does the sd card reader work on current asahi kernel branch ?
<as400> I mean on MBP 14 - t6000 ?
<marcan> yes
<as400> marcan: thx. Asking because I have a ton of cards lying around. They might be handy.
<marcan> you mean for testing?
<as400> Yes, testing, moving data etc.
yuyichao_ has joined #asahi
<marcan> sure, though I don't expect much of an issue there
<marcan> the hardware is standard SDHCI-PCI and uses an existing driver, with only minor patches
<marcan> I'd be surprised if some cards work and not others
<marcan> if something's broken it's probably broken on other laptops with the same chip :)
<as400> Maybe you're right. I did have problems with some cards on other laptops.
<marcan> (except that one PCIe read quirk... I need to send that patch out and see if anyone with the actual datasheet knows a magic fix for it)

<M12destroyer21[m]> matthewayers[m]: I have used this before https://github.com/leifliddy/macbook12-audio-driver , although it has a problem where the audio stops working everytime you close the lid, a restart fixed it for me. Also i had to mess around with pulse configs, because the left and right audio channels where switched around. It also doens't work very well with headphones, since you have to run a script to swap out kernel modules, which sometimes
<M12destroyer21[m]> kills the audio completely on both the headphones and the speakers, requiring a restart. I also ran a rolling release distro, which meant that i had to reinstall the driver on every kernel update. Other than that the driver worked fine.
