jmr2: looks like DCP needs a special min-ps PMGR setting to disable power gating; it seems only DCP uses this. I'll submit something for this later, for now I'll send the pulls without it since I don't want to block the core driver (and DCP isn't anywhere near upstreaming yet)

Does it make any sense to try kettenis u-boot with t6000-j314s ?

So if I want to boot payload without using proxy - is there a way to include kernel args in the payload itself ?
<as400>
kov, thx. I'd like to avoid building kernel with the cmdline.
<mps>
as400: I have this script "cat m1n1.macho <(echo 'boot-args=root=PARTUUID=3d20affd-c082-421b-a111-f5d6b1587fe4 rootwait') nk.gz nk-t8103-j293.dtb > ../nk.macho"
<mps>
script? no, just one line
<as400>
mps: no initramfs ?
<mps>
no, not needed
<mps>
i mean, not needed in my case

mps: are you running some desktop environment on your mac now ?
<mps>
as400: well, it depends how people call it, I run awesome wm everywhere for years and it is DE for me. don't like 'big' DEs
<as400>
Sure. How does it perform ? And how are browsers performing ?
Gaspare has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<mps>
as400: fine, except firefox. firefox is stuck on start, reading/writing in loop on two pipes, don't know why
<mps>
netsurf works fine
<as400>
mps: did you try chromium ?
<mps>
as400: no, I don't want to use it
<mps>
and actually cannot install it on my specifically 'tailored' alpine distro where I use libudev-zero instead of eudev. chromium require udev for some reasons unknown to me
<jkm>
mps: hi, so are you currently using custom Alpine Linux on Mac?
<mps>
jkm: only kernel is custom, 5.16-rc series, all userspace programs are alpine edge aarch64
<mps>
kernel is mainline rc with jannaus patches
<mps>
I would try asahi kernel but can't apply keyboard patches cleanly and I don't want to use usb keyboard because I would have to retrain my 'fingers' for 'normal' keyboards which will take time
<jkm>
mps: is awesome wm running smoothly without HW acceleration?
<mps>
jkm: yes, very
<jkm>
mps: what is your output resolution? 4K?
<mps>
mpv video is quite fine, lot faster than on samsung rk3399 chromebook with panfrost driver
<jkm>
mps: currently I am using Alpine Linux on Pinebook Pro (RK3399) with panfrost so I can imagine...
<mps>
uff, I'm bad with graphic. what is 4K resolution
<mps>
jkm: I have to go out now, will be later here again
<jkm>
mps: 4K is 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution
<jkm>
mps: ok, bye

Is there any guide on how to get USB to work in Linux on macbook air? Tried a few kernel branches from github.com/jannau and the few kernel branches from AsahiLinux/asahi, but couldn't get any to work
<j_ey>
zimsneexh: and you made sure to have USB enabled in the config?
<zimsneexh>
I assumed it was enabled in default config, so i enable it in the menuconfig?
<j_ey>
worth double checking, and looking at dmesg to see if you can see any output

<mps>
j_ey: with kernel 5.16-rc4 and keyboard patch Caps-lock doesn't freeze machine now
<mps>
it makes small pause after press, but continue to work
<mps>
would you mind if I post dmesg output about what kernel says
<j_ey>
mps: probably not much point tbh, if all goes according to plan, we should have a new SPI driver tomorrow :P
<mps>
ah, nice to hear, thanks

I checked the few USB options in the kernel config that seemed relevant but they were all already ticked - anyone got any ideas for Macbook air with usb not working?
<kettenis>
hotplug doesn't work; and I believe you'll only get usb2 speeds
<zimsneexh>
I know about hotplug and speeds are okay - I'm only looking to get a keyboard to work
