bentiss: Looks like user is still having the issue even after disconnecting to VPN. Unable to file the issue.
<Adrinael>
bentiss, what is the rate limit? And is it per-user, per-IP, per-IP-range, ... ?

I wanted to search the whole diff for some words via the search in web page in firefox, and I have been trying to get that page stabilize for searching for several minutes now.
<pq>
trying to scroll just makes the diff area blank for a moment while CPU is at 100%, then it jumps back to where I started.
<__tim>
works fine for me in firefox, after clicking 'Expand all' at the top and scrolling through it
<__tim>
(surprisingly so, I should add, since I also often see it being very sluggish with diff views)
<daniels>
pq: chrome is a _little_ sluggish on that page, but I do also have ~120 tabs open, so :)

<pq>
daniels, I think something in me trying to scroll caused Gitlab to start loading more content each time, and that created a slow feedback loop as the new content caused a re-layout.
<daniels>
pq: ah right
<daniels>
I usually just spam the End key to force everything to be materialised and work back from there
<pq>
the re-layout itself took a couple or more seconds each
<pq>
maybe each re-layout also causes a re-jump to the anchor
<emersion>
javascript was a mistake
<pq>
hitting End caused the diff area to go blank, only to find myself back where I started half a minute ago

hmm. having some issues with org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop - somehow software is unable to open the native file browser. in dbus-monitor I see this: https://bpa.st/USUA - any suggestions on how I could investigate what's going on?
<dreamer>
this worked fine a couple days ago
<imirkin>
this chan has the fd.o infrastructure crowd. i guess you're looking for dbus folks?
<dreamer>
ah yes indeed. this was the only channel I could find easily. sorry :)
<dreamer>
"the internet" says to join here
<imirkin>
no worries. just that you're unlikely to get your answer here.
<dreamer>
any suggestion where, then?
<imirkin>
sorry, that part i don't know
<dreamer>
I guess I'll stick around for someone that does

<daniels>
dreamer: D-Bus is just the message transport here, it's not the one at fault per se
<daniels>
whatever is trying to open the native browser is asking D-Bus how to speak org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop, and D-Bus is replying that nothing is registered to listen to that interface
<daniels>
(similar to DNS replying that there is no entry for foo.invalid)
<daniels>
so whichever environment you have, it would be a feature request for them to enable that portal
<daniels>
D-Bus isn't the source of your problems, just the conveyor of disappointment
<imirkin>
daniels: killing the messenger is a pretty popular solution to that problem though
<imirkin>
at least was, in the olden days
<daniels>
imirkin: I mean it doesn't solve the problem of not being able to communicate with a given D-Bus endpoint
<imirkin>
:)

daniels: thnx for the info. I do not use a desktop environment
<dreamer>
but this was working before. it's odd
<dreamer>
xdg-desktop-portal would be add. it seems this is used for flatpak and snap? I don't use either
<dreamer>
we traced the code that is failing, which is `dbus_bus_name_has_owner(dbuscon, "org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop", nullptr)` in the program I'm testing
<dreamer>
I don't get how it was working before ..
<dreamer>
well, running xdg-desktop-portal and it works .. not sure how/why this wasn't there
<dreamer>
thnx
