<hexdump0815> jenneron[m]: i started to look at the exynos chromebook kernels and will most probably use the pmos exynos kernel changes as a base for me as well
<hexdump0815> while looking at the diff i noticed that there is one patch in there, which does not belong to exynos: https://gitlab.com/exynos5-mainline/linux/-/commit/ae3c8ce5aa363bc9f5daec3cbc98c7fe198e365c
<hexdump0815> this one is not for exynos but for meson/amlogic - i guess it comes from an odroid c1 (amlogic s805)
<hexdump0815> if you prefer to have a clean exynos tree, maybe think about dropping that one
<hexdump0815> regarding mt8183 device: i'll wait with shipping anything until it is sorted out that some other mt8183 device from bonfire_ is on the way to you
<hexdump0815> my main interest is to have someone else with the proper skills to also keep an eye on mt8183 as well and this is why iwould like you to have at least on such device at direct access for you
<hexdump0815> i think currently i'm most probably the only one looking at if mt8183 is working well on mainline as cadmium seems to have stopped active development
<hexdump0815> the mt8183 chromebooks are a too nice platform to let them bit rot like it is the case for nyan right now where i'm as it seems also the only one really looking at it (sadly with some higher end skills for that missing)
<hexdump0815> btw. on mt8183 not everything is sunshine - usb still has some problems on all devices and adding a monitor via alt mode dp over type c is not working neither on any mt8183 device
<hexdump0815> sadly mt8183 has some limitations regarding external monitors in general: max 1440x900 or 1280x720 at 60hz and fhd 1920x1080 only at 30hz which most monitors do not properly advertise iirc
<jenneron[m]> hexdump0815: speaking of nyan, we have fixed sound and jack detection recently
<jenneron[m]> <hexdump0815> "sadly mt8183 has some limitation..." <- weird
<jenneron[m]> I see your point about mt8183
<hexdump0815> jenneron[m]: here is some more info on that mt8183 external display problem (just for reference): https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1076929
<jenneron[m]> hexdump0815: well, I can't do anything to this
<jenneron[m]> also, note that I'm not expert in kernel development, I can do some board specific things like device tree and sometimes peripherals drivers, but working with SoC is usually too low level for me
<jenneron[m]> those GPU fixes for exynos are not from me
<jenneron[m]> to understand my level you can go through exynos tree and see the patches with my authorship
<hexdump0815> jenneron[m]: please don't get me wrong - i have no expectations of you fixing those problems - just wanted to mention the link with the info i found so far to share it
