<pnill> HDMI on H6 is supported in mainline right?
hlauer has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<pnill> Ok, I guess my new question is; is there anything special I should have to do with the mainline kernel to get HDMI working on an H6 based board? I enabled HDMI in menuconfig, I saw apritzel mention a video= commandline against kernel for his eachlink

<pnill> more specifically about the cmdline parameter video=HDMI-A-1:e, I tried :d as well which I guess from research has something to do with "digital output forced"... hdmi-phy also doesn't show in dmesg/kernel boot log so I'm assuming it's some dtb/devicetree issue.
<pnill> guess I shouldn't be surprised if it is

<pnill> also no /sys/class/drm
<pnill> Seems like more people have issues with audio over HDMI than actual hdmi
<pnill> lol
<pnill> I also don't seem to see anything under Device Drivers->Graphics support-> for the Allwinner H6 drm
<pnill> There's a10 there
<pnill> but no h6
<pnill> So I guess, sun4i-drm-hdmi is for all allwinner boards from what I'm seeing
<pnill> sun4i-drm display-engine: [drm] Cannot find any crtc or sizes
<pnill> well got it to this point
<pnill> sun4i-drm display-engine: bound 6515000.lcd-controller (ops sun4i_tcon_ops)
<pnill> sun4i-drm display-engine: deferred probe timeout, ignoring dependency
<pnill> sun8i-mixer 1100000.mixer: deferred probe timeout, ignoring dependency
<pnill> sun8i-dw-hdmi 6000000.hdmi: supply hvcc not found, using dummy regulator
<pnill> sun8i-dw-hdmi 6000000.hdmi: Detected HDMI TX controller v2.12a with HDCP (DWC HDMI 2.0 TX PHY)
<pnill> sun8i-dw-hdmi 6000000.hdmi: registered DesignWare HDMI I2C bus driver
<pnill> am I not supposed to run both of these drivers at the same time?
<pnill> [ 1.863442] [drm] forcing HDMI-A-1 connector off
<pnill> ok
<pnill> that's probably not good.
<pnill> Well
<pnill> I think I got it working
<pnill> it's not playing well with my monitor
<pnill> getting some interference or something
<pnill> but I see little penguins lol
<pnill> I just need to get my console showing on it now

<pnill> can console on linux kernel be used in multiple places at the same time e.x. over uart and hdmi?
<pnill> I guess first I need to get it working over hdmi at all
<pnill> I got the penguins
<pnill> but no console output
<pnill> ok so console=tty0 but then other stuff breaks lol
<jernej> phill: which kernel are you using? Very latest, 5.14.14, should have all fixes regarding HDMI included
<jernej> note that if your native screen resolution is 2160p@60, it might not always work (it works with my monitor, but not on TV)
<pnill> I was on 5.12
<pnill> It worked though.
<pnill> It was just that when setting console away from my serial
<pnill> stuff in my init stopped working
