<libv> swiftgeek: so what were you doing that meant that the shell was not grounded?
<swiftgeek> not quite, monitors expected it to be the same as GND pin
<swiftgeek> and used GND pin as input instead
<libv> oh, reread
<libv> right
<libv> what monitor is this?
<libv> as this i have never heard before
<gamiee> I encountered this when HDMI connector was near of some strong RF transmitter. Due I2C is not differential pair, it started to disrupting it.
<swiftgeek> well i keep having that issue everywhere, and it looks to be due to feature on monitor that will tell you that cable is disconnected (which works even with source powered off)
moteen has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<libv> gamiee: but hpd is a 5V binary signal, iirc pulled to ground by the monitor
moteen has joined #linux-sunxi
<libv> but i would have to look it up, my memory is not too strong anymore
<swiftgeek> pulled to 5V on monitor side
<swiftgeek> 5V provided by source
<libv> i had a hdmi to vga converter with the ad7611, the same chip we are using for the fosdem project, and that adv7611 had been burnt out
<swiftgeek> but that's one out of possibilities
<libv> right, that chip pulled hpd to GND, and that crashed the bpi it was attached to, as that maxxed out the usb power supply
<libv> but since we wanted to test some aliexpress adv7611s anyway, the device served its purpose and was fixed
<libv> swiftgeek: you have that with multiple monitors?
<swiftgeek> yeah
<libv> what allwinner device are you using?
<swiftgeek> oh that's universal on that side to
<swiftgeek> *too
<swiftgeek> a moder monitor won't expose EDID unless it detects a cable
<swiftgeek> *modern
<swiftgeek> but allwinner is what pushed me in right direction, as it started outputting on HDMI anyway at preset resolution, and image appeared under message that cable was not detected
<swiftgeek> xD
moteen has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<swiftgeek> spec doesn't define shell /shielding to be at GND
paulk has joined #linux-sunxi
<libv> ah, wrong, it was the +5V pin that was pulled to ground back in september 19
<libv> covid memory fog, without having actually had covid
<swiftgeek> yeah HPD pull would be usually just 1kΩ
<libv> aha, shell is indeed not specified as a return path, which also makes sense
<libv> at least for dvi

<rm_> hmm, my Cubietruck doesn't seem to boot anymore
<rm_> I wonder what could have gone bad after a few years of shelf life
<rm_> it has a battery, but it appears soldered in (and didn't seem to leak)
<hramrach> did it stop powering on completely or jsut gets stuck somewhere?
moteen has joined #linux-sunxi
<hramrach> You can connect a battery but I don't see one on the board itself
<rm_> it either doesn't power on the monitor at all, or (rarely) shows the u-boot messages, goes to the kernel, and hangs somewhere afterwards, with nothing on HDMI
<rm_> also it is troubling that u-boot says 1 GiB of RAM, while the board actually has 2
<hramrach> it's good idea to connect the serial console and get the u-boot/kernel messages
<rm_> but maybe that was the case all along and the full RAM is only initialized by the kernel
<hramrach> yes, I wanted to ask if it always said that
<hramrach> bu kernel gets to know about RAM from u-boot AFAIK
<rm_> .waveshare.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/560x560/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/c/u/cubietruck_l_1_5.jpg
<rm_> what appears to be a small battery is right below the Etherent port on the picture, next to a white 2-pin connector
<hramrach> right

<rm_> I should try some really old OS image, maybe RAM detection got broken in modern u-boot
<rm_> but for now I also sprinked some WD-40 into the SD-card slot
<rm_> and waiting for that to do something :)
<rm_> at least the 3.5mm jack is corroded on the outside
<hramrach> wd40 probably isn't ideal for this
<rm_> I know there's the contact cleaner version, but I only have the regular one
<jernej> any idea why?
<jernej> smaeul: additionally, kasan produces this warning for sun6i-rtc: https://pastebin.com/raw/qimd2GWc
<jernej> all that with 5.19-rc7
<jernej> smaeul: it looks like common->base is null for apb1 rtc clock here: https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v5.19-rc7/source/drivers/clk/sunxi-ng/ccu_gate.c#L67
<jernej> ah, I think I get it, it should be also in sun50i_h6_r_ccu_clks, but it's not
<jernej> rtc issue also went away with latest -rc, so I think we're all good

<MoeIcenowy> jernej: BTW I think the RTC clock's parent is AHB, not APB
<jernej> MoeIcenowy: According to clock diagram from H6 user manual, RTC clock is on APBS1 bus
