<swiftgeek>
i think mine is 256byte long so this is confusing ( EDID_EXT_SIZE , 24C02)
<swiftgeek>
unplugged gives me > hdmi can not get hpd signal
<swiftgeek>
so it's not hpd related, only EDID
<swiftgeek>
somehow getting first byte wrong
<swiftgeek>
i expanded edid_check_info with debug()
<swiftgeek>
yeah it corrupted itself again lmao
<swiftgeek>
i guess i will better just fill it with FF, then 00 and then backup image
<swiftgeek>
or replace with fresh one once i find some xd

15 years of data retention, how bad is it for an EEPROM :D

i guess that's a fail then

is there a way to force EDID to appear in those new screens?

ssh-ing into it is pretty slow, maybe the handshake?

<swiftgeek>
0x30 seems to come from E-DDC it seems, but why would 0x50 not appear at the same time
<wens>
and also I/O seems slower
<hramrach>
it takes about a second going through another machine which on its own is almoust instanteous when the shell is already cached
<hramrach>
slow io depends on the controller (poor) and medioum (your choice)
<hramrach>
on the other hand it boots much faster than some newer boards, YMMV
<hramrach>
that is with H2+
<hramrach>
I would say it's a performance tradeoff. Of course the old board is generally weaker, and for some workloads that's relevant, and for others it isn't.
<hramrach>
What I generally miss from Allwinner is a good performance board. These low-cost SoCs are pretty good for the price but the high-end (for Allwinner) ones are always missing something.
<gamiee>
hramrach: for my product, the crucial is availability of SBCs and just enough performance. H3 handles it pretty well so far, only down-side I see is very bad thermals :(
<hramrach>
I intended to use these H2+ as low cost virtual USB CD-ROM but in the end nobody cared enough for it to happen
<hramrach>
it would probably perform better than actual CD-ROm ;-)

hramrach: Allwinner failed on A80, so they do not dare to make high performance chips any longer

rockchip did not make it on first try either but thier second or third worked out - not so for allwinner I guess

<jernej>
swiftgeek: you can tell Linux to use EDID from some file instead of reading it from DDC
<jernej>
that is usually used to fake or fix reported capabilities
<swiftgeek>
jernej: yes but i can't make monitor accept it :D
<swiftgeek>
that warning is coming from monitor and does not disappear on that particular one
<jernej>
I'm not sure what do you mean by that. This mechanism has nothing to do with monitor, it's to convince Linux DRM driver to use different values
<swiftgeek>
i already get the picture on screen
<swiftgeek>
it's just that monitor refuses to accept such thing :D
<swiftgeek>
not resolution, just something isn't quite right and in turn it doesn't enable usual EDID 0x50 on the bus
<swiftgeek>
(and within few seconds doesn't recognize input as connected)
<jernej>
can you describe your issue again?
<jernej>
and mandatory question, are you using latest kernel?
<swiftgeek>
not latest kernel on sunxi but i have this issue with a lot of devices
<swiftgeek>
I don't think i have a device where I don't have this issue
<swiftgeek>
So my issue for now is lack of idea what exactly this hpd/ddc/??? protocol is that is required upon connecting to relatively modern monitor, as opposed to ones that have 24c02 EDID always exposed unconditionally
<swiftgeek>
yeah not sunxi specific
<swiftgeek>
on one monitor i resolved it by forcing EEPROM to always appear by physically placing it there, but this one is smarter
<swiftgeek>
lol
<swiftgeek>
figured it out
<swiftgeek>
grounded the shield in alt way and it works
<swiftgeek>
as in return path for single ended not earthing/shielding

yeah GND is used for HPD instead of actual HPD pin
<swiftgeek>
which means shell GND is the only GND
<swiftgeek>
gg
<swiftgeek>
and nowhere in spec it says that shell has to be GND
