<palmer> smaeul: you're talking about the cpux vs riscv clock drivers? the riscv one should only be buildable on RISC-V (though you could probably also skip the SBI clock stuff and just have a direct driver in Linux, I'm assuming the underlying clock HW is very similar)
<smaeul> palmer: I'm talking about the two clocks inside the CCU, which is identical between T113/R528 and D1
<palmer> ah, sorry, I guess I don't know enough about these to understand this, then
<smaeul> but on T113/R528 the "riscv" clock is not hooked up to anything, and on D1 the "cpux" clock is not hooked up to anything, so setting them as critical wastes a bit of power
<palmer> ah, that is awkward
<smaeul> presumably they didn't just hook up the C906 to the "cpux" clock because some internal version of the die had both CPUs enabled at once
<palmer> that would be my guess
<palmer> and it's also explain some of the arm-isms in the C906
<palmer> too bad we can't get one with both CPUs enabled, that'd be a real collector's item ;)
<smaeul> so my original rhetorical question was "is it worth introducing a new compatible for the T113/R528 just so we can set the flags differently?"

<palmer> IDK, but my guess is that nobody cares that much about D1 power consumption -- presumably it's just a PLL that'd be turned off, and it's not like that's going to be the difference between this working for some application or not

<palmer> unless it's still clocking the whole core, that could be something they weren't even designing for?
<smaeul> I haven't measured, but I agree the difference is probably trivial
<palmer> probably not worth worrying about, then
<smaeul> and yeah, so far the only battery-powered D1 board (DevTerm) runs the whole SoM off a 5V boost regulator, so they definitely aren't concerned about a few mW here and there :)
<palmer> yep, that'd be my guess -- unless that that clock is actually driving the a whole core that's just spinning while disconnected from memory, it's probably well within the noise
<palmer> we'd probably save orders of magnitude more power just by spinning up the various custom extensions they have

<szemzoa> apritzel: I don't know how to send it properly, never did, so would be great if somebody with better knowledge doing it, maybe with proper Kconfig options to enable build the ccu driver for ARM.
