I still need some advice on how to make the spi driver generic because it includes several calculations that, if something goes wrong, can only display an error during runtime.

As the debian installation has changed heavily the debian install article should be rewritten (and the "old" one renamed).
<rubberduck>
But: i don't want to do all the work - especially don't i want to test the network-boot (part-sd, part tftp)

I get ~20-21MB/s on my cubieboard2 reading from the µSD card even if i put a up to 130 MB/s UHS3-Card in. What is limiting here?
<rubberduck>
I found that the slot supports HS which ist 50 MHz Clock - which should leat to ~25MB/s peak in 4-Bit mode.
<rubberduck>
Are the missing 4MB/s the protocol overhead (like as with USB)?
<rubberduck>
Are the missing 4MB/s the protocol overhead (like as with USB)?
<karlp>
well, what are you using htat is reporting this "20-21MB/sec" figure?
<karlp>
because if that's just data, then yeah, I wouldn't be expecting much more.

rubberduck: 25 MB/s is the theoretical maximum number of bits transferred over the four Dx lanes of the MMC interface
<apritzel>
rubberduck: so yes, 21 MB/s on that level you measured is expected
<rubberduck>
apritzel: so you think 20-21MB/s real data is ok?
<rubberduck>
okay - so buying a faster µSD is not that useful
<apritzel>
I measured something like 23 MB/s in U-Boot, which has a bit less overhead
<apritzel>
faster uSD on Allwinner is not helping
<rubberduck>
with an A20?
<rubberduck>
what do you think: will the cubieboard2 be sufficient for serving data to a 3D printer with octoprint?
<apritzel>
everything beyond 25MB/s for SD requires actively switching the voltage to 1.8V, which only the very recent SoCs (H616 and later) support natively
<apritzel>
one could insert a (discrete) level translator between the SoC and the SD slot, but I wouldn't know that anyone did this
<rubberduck>
so to gain more speed i have to use SATA
<apritzel>
eMMC is faster, typically, I got up to 120MB/s (on later SoCs, though)
<apritzel>
but yeah, on an A20 having a SATA SSD is probably the easiest
<rubberduck>
i don't think that i will modify my CB2 for that. SATA is much easier
<rubberduck>
a 128GB SSD is below €20 and i only need a short cable - so overall ~€20 should be enough
<apritzel>
yeah, that's what I thought as well
<apritzel>
you won't get anywhere near the 500MB/s with that poor Allwinner SATA controller, but you get surely beyond 100MB/s
<rubberduck>
maybe µSD is fast enough for octoprint.

its no problem with the cmos battery or the ssd

someone has openocd configs for allwinner's jtag? my kernel just hangs on some point, and i new to JTAG kernel debugging.

is there a way to save the state of the jtag pins in the micro sd port
<nquest>
or maybe some DT nodes exist for describing JTAG pinmux?

for testing the video encoding for the fosdem project, i ended up doing nfs
<libv>
the sata disk was already an amazing difference, but nfs was the fastest for me, to get 1024 raw frames read in, and the resulting h264 written out

once i'm further on, raw frames should never hit a disk though, so then even an sd card should be fine

hi to all, I got linux kernel 5.2.y running on lichee pi zero with u-boot v3s--current
<grming>
no problem till now
<grming>
how can I insall xfce on this baord without ethernet connection (I dont have the ethernet board)
<nquest>
grming: no ethernet, no wifi?
<nquest>
grming: what kind of distro you use?
<nquest>
grming: maybe usb-gadget in rndis mode helps you
<grming>
saddly I dont have the board with ethernet connection, I guess I should make one
<mps>
there are cheap usb ethernet adapters
<grming>
I just download and compile kernel 5.2.y for sunxi and now is running
<grming>
ok
<nquest>
grming: look for lan8720 rmii adapter ar use your usb connection as ethernet usb gadget
<grming>
thanks nquest
