\x: so I moved the 7921u to my ipq4019 device, and all 6ghz freqs are marked as disabled, even though its the very same usb device with the very same settings (incl. country code)???

hmm, how do i get luci to detect newly installed wifi hw?
<stintel>
not sure how to do it in luci. CLI: rm /etc/config/wireless; wifi detect
<f00b4r0>
stintel: thanks, that worked (wifi config, 'detect' says it's deprecated ;) but only in cli. I suspect there's some luci cache at play
<f00b4r0>
let's see if a reboot fixes it
<f00b4r0>
it does!

time to play with that cheap mt7921 802.11ax m2 adapter card, see what it can do in AP mode :)
<f00b4r0>
"802.11bgnacax". I agree this really needs separators ;)

is there some value in the build system that programatically tells me if a device is low-ram / low-flash?

i've seen downstream projects using imagebuilder and hardcode a list of specific packages to remove for certain devices, and now i've even seen a project download the ToH sqlite db and query it :)
<schmars[m]>
i assume i can query IMAGE_SIZE per device, just wondering about low-ram basically

well that little thing (which is minipcie, not m2, my bad) seems to perform rather nicely, for all its single-bandedness :)
<opty>
what what what
<SlimeyX>
ft_fixup_l2cache: FDT_ERR_NOTFOUND any clue what that means cause thats the last line i see before it dies on p1010 ppc board
<opty>
f00b4r0: link please :)
<f00b4r0>
opty: aliexpress mt7921 minipci should get you to it :)
<f00b4r0>
branded as "Fenvi MPE-AX1800H" for completeness
<f00b4r0>
cheap as a button
<opty>
f00b4r0: thanks!
<f00b4r0>
SlimeyX: that's a DTS error
<dhewg>
it seems some cheap mt7921 don't do 6ghz though
<dhewg>
get an amd rz608 instead
<f00b4r0>
i had no need for 6ghz, so I didn't pay attention to that tbh
<dhewg>
yeah, but the amd card is cheap as well, so if your're in the market you might as well

f00b4r0: can you use both bands at the same time?
<f00b4r0>
no, as I mentioned it's a single-band device
<f00b4r0>
which, given the price and the fact that it does AX, is something that I really don't mind
<opty>
yeah, how do you usually find out?
<f00b4r0>
find out?
<opty>
that single-bandedeness
<f00b4r0>
I plugged it in
<f00b4r0>
:)
<stintel>
:D
<opty>
eh :)
<stintel>
lol I read that question as "can you use both hands at the same time"
<stintel>
best to step away from the computer
<opty>
s/bandedeness/bandedness/
<f00b4r0>
but it's a laptop adapter, and it only has 2 antenna connectors, so that's a hint
<f00b4r0>
stintel: lol yeah :)
<stintel>
but I wanna play with OpenThread and Matter
<f00b4r0>
heh ;)
<opty>
hint but not proof
<f00b4r0>
i don't think the mt7921 is supposed to support dual phy (both bands at the same time), but nbd would certainly know more than i do
<SlimeyX>
i got the baby brother also, 1930 with is non-ac
<SlimeyX>
otherwise same board

had to read up on how to use diff and stuff for this lol

lol why do i get prompted, Adtran Bluesocket BSAP-2030 (BSAP_2030) [N/y/?] (NEW)
<opty>
from #openwrt: iwinfo on the client shows better quality than on the ap (again), strange? (sorry, getting desperate)
<stintel>
I would say this can be normal
<stintel>
different tx power, different antenna gain
<stintel>
the AP shows the strength of the signal it receives from the client, the client shows the strength of the signal it receives from the AP
<stintel>
so those are two different things
<stintel>
(someone correct me if I'm talking bs again :P)
goliath has quit [Quit: SIGSEGV]
<stintel>
I think this also explains why a phone often has better upload speed than download speed, the antennas in the phone are simply worse than those in the AP
<stintel>
e.g. my s21 ultra gets ~650Mbps up while only ~220Mbps down in the exact same spot

sounds reasonable, thanks

stintel have you gotten the 3040 to boot without radios loaded?
<opty>
stintel: if i swap the roles and use the old router's radio to connect to the client as ap then iwinfo shows similar quality on both sides :/
