I wanted to make some PRs to packages in the openwrt/packages repo on github. I realized I have to test my changes. Is there like a container / workflow that can do that for me automatically?
<Habbie>
if your Makefile has tests, it will be done automatically
<Habbie>
(i believe)
<Habbie>
i do manual testing for everything I PR there though
<Habbie>
i PR against my own fork of the repo, let the workflows build, download packages, install, test
<schmars[m]>
same, but local build with sdk, and a vm
<Habbie>
i have a local build env too but for package updates, just firing it off to github is very convenient
<schmars[m]>
i forget what i was working on if i have to wait more than a minute or two :D
<Habbie>
sometimes i fire these off and forget for two days
<Habbie>
then i notice the open PRs to my fork
<Habbie>
that works well

<totkeks>
ah, the PR triggers the github workflow and the packages are then put into the github release or on some openwrt server?
<Habbie>
in the Checks tab on the PR page

and you install the package on a live physical system or use a vm/qemu?
<Habbie>
for simple updates, i test in docker
<Habbie>
for bigger things, i grab a router
