Chroma420SampleLocType specification from H.273 is probably a pinnacle of discouraging the reader before they have read even the first sentence. That diagram looks like from an IQ test.

<yshui`>
what error should the compositor return if the client sent an already used `new_id` ?
<pq>
yshui`, pick one from wl_display.error, one that seems closest. Or look at what libwayland-server does, I don't recall.
<yshui`>
if I send a `wl_display.error`, does the `object_id` have to be set to the display object?
rgallaispou has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<pq>
yshui`, that would be correct, yes. As in, send the error on wl_display object.
<yshui`>
then how does the client find out which request caused the problem? or does it not matter because it's not recoverable anyway?
<pq>
it doesn't matter because it's not recoverable, and if you want, you can put a helpful message in the error string to aid debugging
<yshui`>
i see. thanks for explaining!
<pq>
weston has a habit of putting "wl_surface@%d blah blah" and so on in the error string, especially if that object is not the object referenced by the error event directly

Alright, searched the wayland mailing lists to try to find reports of this issue or patches. Any idea why upgrading weston from 10.0.1 to 11.0.0 would cause gstreamer playback to have a red tint? (its normal on Weston 10.0.1).
<Compy_>
ManMower: Yep, exactly it! Thanks for the link. Will proceed on my end
<ManMower>
good luck!

Hi, I recently upgraded from weston 9 to weston 10. Before, it would create wayland-0 in XDG_RUNTIME_DIR. Now it creates wayland-1 instead. I run weston 10 with -Bdrm-backend.so and I have WAYLAND_DISPLAY=wayland-0 in my environment(even if I unset it, I still get wayland-1 when weston is run). Is there a way to revert this behavior?
<emersion>
nope
<emersion>
you need to get WAYLAND_DISPLAY from weston, instead of hardcoding it

<kennylevinsen>
setting WAYLAND_DISPLAY when starting a wayland compositor tends to instruct it to become a Wayland client itself for nested operation, rather than that it should that display name itself
<daniels>
yeah, you're thinking of -Swayland-0
<emersion>
ah, didn't know about that flag

Thanks for the responses. When running a wayland client, I now check for the socket name in XDG_RUNTIME_DIR. Is there a better/preferred way to get this information?
<emersion>
yes, get it from weston

Thanks emersion! I will try that. I have weston running inside one container and a wayland client in another container, communication is over a shared socket. The client doesn't have access to the weston environment/logs. Also for my setup it would make things easier to define WAYLAND_DISPLAY prehand for the client container. In the weston container I will try using -Swayland-0 as daniels suggested.
