steev: hi, can you test and confirm that reverting this commit makes audio work on yoga c630?
<zdykstra>
Is 4k@60hz available as a video output mode, or is it an issue on my machine?
<zdykstra>
(on the x13s)
<HdkR>
4-lane Displayport not available on Linux with the X13s yet
<HdkR>
So caps out at 4k30 atm
<zdykstra>
Cool, thanks for the confirmation!
<jglathe_volterra>
It is deliberately limited in the dts. However, if you change it to 4 lanes, it won't work, so there is some gpio secret hidden (or something in the configuration for sc8280xp). However, on Volterra I am running 4 lanes via dp... which makes this a bit mysterious.
<steev>
jenneron[m]: i can try, yeah... if i can find it :D i've not unpacked everything since my move
<jenneron[m]>
this one is very promising, it fixes the same soundwire problem for me on an sdm845 device
<jenneron[m]>
haven't tried on flex 5g yet
<zdykstra>
jglathe_volterra: interesting! How is your Volterra as a workstation?
<steev>
jenneron[m]: found it :D building now (6.7.8 which is what im currently running on it)
<jenneron[m]>
steev: audio volume is insane, make it low before trying to play anything
<jenneron[m]>
this should make volume levels normal and make jack detection working
<jenneron[m]>
then i can upstream it
<steev>
will do
<jglathe_volterra>
zdykstra I like it. Performance is pretty good, use it as spare time main console for almost a year now. Still some things to fix (like sound over dp), but it's fun. I do my builds on it, and it's fast.
<jglathe_volterra>
And one box is set up as kvm host, booted to EL2.
<jenneron[m]>
ignore messed up commit history, use make defconfig sdm845.config
<steev>
i'll try anything once ;)
<steev>
cloning now

<jenneron[m]>
if this branch doesn't work this will mean that there may be something wrong in c630 dts
<jenneron[m]>
because it works for me on another 845 device with the same audio setup with the same kconfig

build is running, will know a bit later :)

<steev>
jenneron[m]: indeed it does work with your branch
<steev>
and yes, it's quite loud :)
<jenneron[m]>
steev: what about ucm?
<steev>
that's what i'm about to test
<steev>
jenneron[m]: indeed with the ucm config the volume isn't quite as loud (but one thing that i still notice here is that the volume from the left speaker is far louder than the volume from the right speaker)
<jenneron[m]>
have you rebooted after applying ucm?
<steev>
yes
<jenneron[m]>
hm, i'm not sure i can fix this as it doesn't happen for me
<jenneron[m]>
steev: can you do `alsactl store -f speakers.state` while playing something with speakers and upload it?
<jenneron[m]>
there has to be some mixer that is set to a higher volume for left speaker
<jenneron[m]>
steev: try setting 'RX1 Digital Volume' to 84
<jenneron[m]>
in alsamixer
<jenneron[m]>
so make it the same value as RX0 Digital Volume which is 84 there
<jenneron[m]>
steev: the command `amixer set 'RX1 Digital Volume' 84` should do it
<dgilmore>
I wrote https://pagure.io/arm-image-installer/blob/main/f/update-x13s-bios to setup a usb stick to update the bios, a user does have to download the bios file and pass it in. I am going to look at what it will take to put the bits on the nvme ESP partition and boot once to update the bios
<steev>
jenneron[m]: unable to find control RX1 Digital Volume
<jenneron[m]>
huh
<jenneron[m]>
steev: does aplay -L result in this sound card being under id 0?
<jenneron[m]>
steev: try `amixer -c 0 set 'RX1 Digital Volume' 84`
<jenneron[m]>
also maybe amixer -c 0 set 'RX1 Digital' 84
<steev>
same thing; i think because it doesn't have Volume
<steev>
yeah
<steev>
that part worked
<jenneron[m]>
do speakers work okay now?
<steev>
but still the same, audio on the left is far louder (but i can look into this don't worry about it)
<jenneron[m]>
ah
<steev>
it does show all the same numbers now though in speakers.state
<jenneron[m]>
steev: try setting RX2 as well
<steev>
same deal :)
<jenneron[m]>
i'm not sure then
<jenneron[m]>
maybe you can go through alsamixer and try different things
<steev>
likewise... maybe my speaker is just damaged; i've definitely gone through and made sure all things were looking equal around the rx's
<jenneron[m]>
there may be 2 mixers for left and right speakers with different values
<jenneron[m]>
steev: do you have windows on it?
<jenneron[m]>
to test speakers
<steev>
i do actually, yeah
<jenneron[m]>
MBHC Over Current on HPHR detected - i hate when flex 5g does it
<steev>
welp :(
<steev>
it's definitely the speaker at fault
<jenneron[m]>
sad

<steev>
ah well, i have the thinkpad for audio :)
<steev>
maybe at some point in the future, i can find the c630 speakers on ebay or some such
