dianders: I remember on my first attempt to get the touchscreen working I had to add a 1 second sleep before it tries to read the version. But that was before I realized this touch IC supports i2c-hid and therefore was using the normal goodix driver. Making it sleep in the i2c-hid driver right before the read does not make a difference sadly
<ungeskriptet>
With the normal goodix driver I actually had the pen and touch partially working
<ungeskriptet>
Maybe there are multiple modes that this IC has? Like one uses a proprietary I2C protocol and the other i2c-hid. Is that possible?
<dianders>
ungeskriptet: Sorry, I just don't know. ...but it feels unlikely that it would support both. I've never seen it, anyway. If it was sorta working with the non-i2c-hid driver then are you sure it's supposed to support i2c-hid?
<dianders>
...and how certain are you that this is the touchscreen you have on your hardware?
<ungeskriptet>
Well, I know that it should be some sort of GT738X from the device tree. The panel datasheet says that it is GT7385P and the cfg file for the driver has the string "7386" in it
<ungeskriptet>
Hm, I guess I have to look inside to be certain. I have a x86 tablet that also has a Goodix IC which identifies itself as "GXTP7386" in the ACPI tables but is actually GT7382H. That one supports i2c-hid
<dianders>
ungeskriptet: FWIW, the GT7375P datasheet I have (in English) has _a lot_ more details about hid-i2c in it. The one you pointed at in Chinese only says hid-i2c once. Any chance it's just a paste-o where they forgot to delete it from some other touchscreen that supports i2c-hid?
<ungeskriptet>
The GT7385P datasheet does indeed seem to be very similar to the GT7375P datasheet I found
<ungeskriptet>
dianders: Does your datasheet mention GT738?
<dianders>
ungeskriptet: no, doesn't mention GT738

oof, i was running grub-install and my x13s crashed
<enyalios>
and it would no longer boot at all
<enyalios>
i had to make a usb boot drive, boot off of that, chroot into my os on disk and reinstall grub from there to fix it

This is so weird, I switched to the normal goodix driver and touch and pen input gets detected...
<ungeskriptet>
Although not correctly
<ungeskriptet>
dianders: Would it be possible for you to share the datasheet to me? And if not, does the datasheet mention anything about firmware? I'm thinking that they might have disabled i2c-hid through firmware

enyalios: I've had a crash when manipulating efivars via efibootmgr, I wonder if you hit the same underlying issue with grub-install
<enyalios>
zdykstra: yeah im pretty sure the crash was due to efivars stuff
<abby>
i think there's a patch floating around for that
