So now what's left is the kernel space driver. That's great news
<Dcow[m]>
userspace is still actively under development, but AFAIK it passes like 97% of GLES tests
<Dcow[m]>
but you never know how much time might be needed for even last 1%
<Leidenfrost>
Dcow[m] yeah I subscribed to their channel. I usually let it playing on background while I work
<Leidenfrost>
I'm sure there's a lot of work left no only on that last 1% but also for optimization and that kind of work that a gpu driver usually needs (looking at radeon foss drivers rn)
<Leidenfrost>
But as long as the drivers is usable enough for leveraging the gpu for normal desktop usage, I'm buying an M1 pro and installing asahi as a daily driver
Gaspare has quit [Quit: Gaspare]
<Dcow[m]>
as I said, it not done yet and if you not bought it yet you might wait for october and m2 devices probably)
<Dcow[m]>
at least for m1 to be discounted)
<arrowhead10[m]>
You can get m1 mini for sub 400s now on ebay they come and go… I think for what it offers it’s pretty good value
<Leidenfrost>
Yeah the m1 mini is pretty affordable. But I specially want it to be a laptop with dual or tiple head support.
<alyssa>
passing 97% of GLES2 tests does not mean 97% of apps work
<alyssa>
at best, it means more or less 97% of features tested by the GLES2 conformance tests work
<alyssa>
but what's tested is a small subset of what's possible in GLES2 (the combinatorics suck)
<alyssa>
and of course y'all don't want GLES2, you want GL4.7 and Vulkan 1.4 and whatever :v
<Leidenfrost>
Yeah I'm aware of that. But I always guessed that compositors used a small % of most OpenGL extensions, and as long as those are covered, desktop apps that are not games are fine
