Hi all! I am struggling to get a USB keyboard to work when booting Asahi Linux on an apple mac mini (m1, 2020). Following amw's guide from Github, I used the Asahi dart/dev kernel compiled with the config-jannau-iso9660-noR config file, and the debian initrd manually modified to just run /bin/sh. Linux boots to /bin/sh, but the keyboard doesn't work (the keyboard was plugged in to the second USB-C port using a USB-C to USB-A adapter).

alyssa: what kernel and config file did you use on your mac mini? And what USB port did you plug the keyboard in? From the photo of your tweet it looks like you used the USB-C port closest to the power plug: isn't that port needed for the serial interface?

hablerentand[m]: IIRC you have to plug in the keyboard before you power on the device, USB hotplugging is not supported. Maybe that is the problem?

FireFox317: In my case, I found as long as the usb type-C to type-A adaptor is left in the port, I can hotplug on the type-A side

flip side is that it /didn't/ recognize the device plugged in immediately, I had to unplug the type-A side and replug it during boot

my setup was type-C to type-A connected to an externally powered type-A hub with the USB containing the rootfs, the keyboard, and USB-Ethernet adaptor connected to ethernet

alyssa: ahh, well unfortunately i don't have a M1 device, but i like reading the IRClogs and watching you guys stream development xd

external power for the hub was needed to have both USB and keyboard at once without it messing up, sven thinks there might be a PHY issue there to switch on higher power iirc

Firefox317: yes, I plugged in the keyboard before powering on the device but the keyboard still didn't work.
