there could be a USB protocol issue with your setup somehow, but it's pretty hard to debug without tools (e.g. serial port and/or USB protocol analyzer) :(

Managed to boot until linux complains about missing root device w/o initrd. Probably should try iscsi or somehow write an ext4 fs there.

does your kernel have the target filesystem/transport layer modules built in?

if you dont want to use an initrd you should have nvme support and whatever filesystem your root is set to y, not m
