<marcan> j_ey: I was going to do it today, but I had an... er, interesting night, so the final cleanup/bindings might get punted for tomorrow
<marcan> pmgr is pushed though
<marcan> I'm going to try to get the progress report out today instead

<j_ey> kettenis: thanks, that reply basically sums up my thoughts too!
<j_ey> and sorry that I forgot to CC you on my pinctr driver, it's here https://lore.kernel.org/linux-gpio/20210921222956.40719-1-joey.gouly@arm.com/
<kettenis> I did see it; I don't think you should keep those defines but I figured the Linux pinctrl/gpio maintainer would point out what variant they prefer anyway
<j_ey> yeah Linus said, I've removed them for v2
<kettenis> I think I missed the discussion though
<kettenis> hence my reply to the reply from maz
<j_ey> we can add a apple, npins, but it seems a bit redundant as you said we're unlikely to actually ever have more than one gpio-ranges
<kettenis> Linux is probably afraid of us setting a bad example which is then followed by others
<kettenis> s/Linux/Linus/
<j_ey> there's already a few drivers in Linux that use gpio-ranges *shrug*
<kettenis> same for u-boot as I pointed out

<marcan> j_ey/sven: as for "nub", that sounds like some kind of low level chip root/fabric thing
<marcan> which lines up with all the first pstate registers being about that
<marcan> so if you view the chip as a tree, it's the root of the tree in some fashion
<j_ey> the keyboard's interrupt goes through nub_gpio
<j_ey> that doesnt seem that low level..
<marcan> sure it does - wake up from sleep!
<marcan> you want to be able to turn off the main gpio controller in sleep
<j_ey> we dont have sleep working! :P
<j_ey> but good point
<marcan> but anyway - yes, the controller needs to be parameterizable
<marcan> I'm in general a proponent of that - we should still throw t8103 compatibles on everything, but I hope we can get away with a bunch of things working magically on newer SoCs thanks to the generic compatibles
<marcan> Apple have clearly shown that they have a habit of keeping SoC blocks reasonably backwards compatible from generation to generation
<marcan> and especially within the same generation (e.g. M1 vs M1X) it ought to be identical, and we know we're going to get several chips of the same generation

<Orsira> Hello from my mac mini running linux!
<Orsira> I've been interested in this project since it was annouced and even bought myself a base mac mini went it went on sale serval months ago so I could tinker around.
<Orsira> I tried getting linux working with the dart branch but I could never get the keyboard to work once I got to the shell.
<Orsira> Although I did learn a lot about git, compiling the kernel, and initfs.
<Orsira> I followed along alyssa's steps the other day but I was having the same problems as Glanzmann and class stopped me from troubleshooting too much.
<Orsira> Thankfully the 4k mode fix worked for me as well. I just have a standard Asus 1080p monitor.
<Orsira> I'm amazed at how fast this thing is without hardware acceleration. I'm talking about 4k YouTube playback (on a 1080p monitor) with no dropped frames.
<Orsira> I spent some much time with a Raspberry Pi 4 trying to get even 720p smooth Youtube playback. Overclock + OS on an nvme + every chromium flag I could throw at it and this thing blows it out of the water.
<Orsira> So I just wanted to say thanks.
<marcan> my iMac can't even do that smoothly... with a radeon...
<psykose> your imac needs to hit the gym
<marcan> to be fair radeon frequency scaling doesn't work
<marcan> I still need to annoy the amdgpu devs about that one day...
<alyssa> marcan: lol
<alyssa> Orsira: I guess that might also have fixed the TV..

<kit_ty_kate> i realized #asahi-stream wasn't documented in https://asahilinux.org/community/ Is it cool if i open a PR to add it or no need?
