<frederik> Hello, I hope that I'm right here, I was told to mention my issue here that I have with my Asahi Linux on a Macbook Air 2020 M1 and misbehaving (not loading/crashing) apps after some kind of problems with PGPME/PGP keys and now receiving several errors also concerning the GPU. Maybe somebody could take a closer look and help me out here? I can give more detailed description of the steps undertaken and the error messages. Thanks a lot in advance!
<ChaosPrincess> use something like this: https://paste.bingner.com/ to paste the logs, dont just dump 9000 lines into irc

<frederik> Ok, yes, I am sorry for that!
<frederik> So initially I had the following problem, running sudo pacman -Syu:
<frederik> I couldn't do updates, install any software and firefox and other apps that were running fine before, kept crashing right after startup. I do not remember changing anything specific in my system, so I'm assuming these changes came with an update.
<frederik> I found this solution on the Arch Linux instructions: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Pacman#error:_GPGME_error:_No_data
<frederik> With this solution, sudo pacman -Syu was working fine again, but a lot of apps show some serious misbehavior/crashes or wouldn't start at all.

<AndrewYu> Hi, I'm using the MacBook Air (M1, 2020) with sway+wayland. Slapping my normal sway config on there (and changing the output name to "Unknown-1" as listed in swaymsg -t get_outputs"), everything works perfectly except for antialiasing. My eyes think that there's no antialiasing at all.
<AndrewYu> (It might be just me having a lack of experience using Wayland on Arch Linux (ARM), since I switched to Debian before starting to use Wayland)

<AndrewYu> My scale factor is 1.6, in case that might make a difference
<AndrewYu> Okay... my bad, it's actually the scaling that's making things look weird. 1 or 2 seem to be fine, but 1.6 creates weird gaps in strokes of letters sometimes, which I don't see when I set a scale of 1.6 on my ThinkPad x220i

<dylanchapell> have you tried just doing a clean install
<frederik> No, that is what I want to circumvent.

<dylanchapell> here is the console output when I launch thunderbird http://paste.bingner.com/paste/zpfe9 . it works fine for me so any errors in both of ours you can prob ignore. What is your setup? I am using the stock installation on asahi-linux-edge running wayland
<dylanchapell> I am getting the same no gpu detected via PCI so it can run with that error
<dylanchapell> I use signal beta from the AUR and it works fine (just takes a long time to build). Signal desktop from the arch repo did not open for me.
<dylanchapell> frederik: here is my output launching audacity. it works fine for me, even though I am getting the same consle output as you http://paste.bingner.com/paste/sqd4c

<dylanchapell> frederik: about the thunderbird locale error, try running the locale command and see if something is set up wrong. here is the output on my setup http://paste.bingner.com/paste/83wku
<dylanchapell> well nvmd I guess they left
<frederik> Thanks dylanchapell! I am also using asahi-linux-edge running wayland and KDE Plasma on an M1 MacBook Air 2020
<dylanchapell> frederik: how did you install asahi? default settings in the installer? were there any obvious errors or problems?
<frederik> yes everything was installed with default settings, and everything was running smoothly until this PGPME error message came up.
<frederik> that's my output from $ locale http://paste.bingner.com/paste/2gncf
<frederik> it differs from yours at least.
<dylanchapell> yeah some of them are set to german and some are set to US. is that on purpose?
<frederik> to be honest I don't know - I thought that it might have been changed since I changed some of the date/time formats in the settings into german (I live in GER)..
mikelee_ has quit [Remote host closed the connection]

<dylanchapell> yeah that makes sense and should be a supported setup. it is complaining about not setting LC_ALL, and there are some google results for fixing that problem (https://linuxopsys.com/topics/fix-error-locale-cannot-set-lc_all-to-default-locale-no-such-file-or-directory) but my LC_ALL also isn't set so it shouldn't be a problem..
<dylanchapell> arch specific locale info https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Locale
dylanchapell_ has joined #asahi
<frederik> I'm also very sure, that I did these settings much earlier then the error came up..
<dylanchapell_> Ok, it seems like it shouldn't be a big deal. Try running the programs that won't launch in software rendering mode: LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 thunderbird
<dylanchapell_> and does it launch?
<frederik> yes, but it does not react and turns grey pretty soon and (not responding) appears in title bar.
<dylanchapell_> ok so same as before? then it's not a gpu problem
<frederik> jap, I suppose.
<dylanchapell_> have you reinstalled the app?
<frederik> Not thunderbird, but others with these errors and they were persistent after re-installation.

<dylanchapell_> frederik: thunderbird has a safe mode you can use by launching while holding shift. it mostly affects adding which i assume you aren't using but it is worth trying https://mzl.la/3AbU5jz

<frederik> dylanchapell, same behaviour in safe mode: http://paste.bingner.com/paste/hhvhj
<frederik> jonny1996 I tried this solution and the 'sudo rm -R /var/lib/pacman/sync' command solved the PGPME error messages. But I still have misbehaving apps now as stated above.
<frederik> Then I wanted to comment on the thread you posted, but confirming their terms they explicitly state, that they don't cover Arch Linux ARM and that one should ask in the ARM specific forums.

<chadmed> derek: there are a couple of loose ends to tie up with the daemon and how it needs to talk to the kernel driver but once thats done we should be good to go (mostly)
<dererk> \o chadmed! got it! so nothing like a preview to alpha/beta test that is not 100% sure that it will fry my speakers yet?
<chadmed> not yet sorry!
