<chadmed_> nicolas17: that "power" measurement is calculated from the instantaneous V/ISENSE readings at a given time so it's not really an accurate representaation of "power consumption"
<chadmed_> the speaker amps are 13 W RMS parts so that's really a worst-case scenario

<the_mariner> Hi there!
possiblemeatball has joined #asahi
<the_mariner> Is this the right channel to ask support related questions?
<j`ey> yup
<the_mariner> So, I just updated to the newest release and given the latest blogpost I assumed that sound should just work? It's not working for me, sadly. It seems to be detecting the devices, but the speakers just don't emit sound. Any troubleshooting tips or docs I could check?
<j`ey> what device?
<j`ey> systemctl status speakersafetyd
<the_mariner> M1 macbook pro
<j`ey> the_mariner: and just to be clear, youre running fedora?
<the_mariner> "Unit speakersafetyd.service could not be found." I guess that answers the question...
<the_mariner> j`ey: yes
<the_mariner> Talking here from konversation
<j`ey> the_mariner: did you have an old install?
<j`ey> as in, when did you first install?
<the_mariner> Yes I did. My first install was probably around september
<j`ey> the_mariner: dnf install asahi-platform-metapackag
<the_mariner> Installed. Does this require a reboot?
<j`ey> if speakersafetyd isnt running now, yeah
<the_mariner> Also, just to explain my process: I tried to find upgrade instructions linked in the blog post, but since I found none, ended up just running the install shell command. It seemed to know I had an old install so I assumed it worked
<the_mariner> But just wondering: are there specific upgrade instructions?
<the_mariner> j`ey: cool, will do
<j`ey> no specific upgrade instructions

<matthiasvonarx> After upgrading the mesa packages i cannot launch hyprland anymore it fails with:
<matthiasvonarx> wlr_gles2_renderer_create_with_drm_fd() failed
<matthiasvonarx> Does someone know something about this?
<j`ey> https://github.com/hyprwm/Hyprland/issues/4540 has the same crash, but from a while ago

<j`ey> ah but nixos with mesa 24..
<j`ey> matthiasvonarx: what does dnf list --installed | grep mesa show? (pastebin it if its a lot of output)

<j`ey> looks like the right versions
<j`ey> matthiasvonarx: have you tried a reboot?
<matthiasvonarx> yes, sadly that didnt change anything
<matthiasvonarx> maybe the Hyprland crash report has more information https://pastebin.com/raw/xKpEuAy4 but i cannot find anything useful in it

<j`ey> I just upgraded, also using a wlroots compositor and it's fine, hm
bruse has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<matthiasvonarx> Interesting, so at this point it should be equivalent
<j`ey> well I'll be using a different wlroots version, but this part of the code is probably similar
<matthiasvonarx> Hm are you able to launch Hyprland as well?
<j`ey> I dont have hyprland installed
<j`ey> no idea why EGL_MESA_device_software is true
<matthiasvonarx> Ah maybe i found something: When i launch it from the TTY i get a slightly different error before the error mentioned first: UABI mismatch: Kernel 10009, Mesa 10010 terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std:runtime_error'
<matthiasvonarx> idk what these numbers are to be honest
<j`ey> oh
<j`ey> matthiasvonarx: you didnt update the kernel
<matthiasvonarx> but somehow the kernel seems to lag behind in version number
<matthiasvonarx> how is that possible?
<j`ey> try dnf upgrade again?
<matthiasvonarx> yeah there is nothing new
<j`ey> matthiasvonarx: check /boot what versions are there?
<j`ey> also dnf upgrade --refresh, just in case?
<matthiasvonarx> 6.6.3.413 (and also some 411 files)
<j`ey> 413 is what you need to run
<j`ey> uname -a, that shows 411 still?
<matthiasvonarx> yeah

<j`ey> that should get you grub
<j`ey> then you can boot into 413
kidplayer666 has joined #asahi
<matthiasvonarx> can i then set it as default also?
<matthiasvonarx> i dont understand why it didnt update to the newest kernel once it was installed with dnf
<j`ey> yeah that's weird
<j`ey> try manually first though
<matthiasvonarx> ok i hope i will manage to do that XD brb

<matthiasvonarx> i was not able to boot the new kernel from grub. Tried to make it default with grub2.mkconfig and with grubby -> 413 should be default but there is still 411 showing after rebooting. Idk looking into it further tomorrow going to sleep now :). Thanks very much for your help anyway.
<j`ey> matthiasvonarx: not even manually?
<matthiasvonarx> i didnt manage to do it there honestly. Was not even able to run ls properly
<j`ey> huh
<j`ey> it should have shown a grub menu
<j`ey> with just the list of kernels
<matthiasvonarx> if i hit esc i am just getting an arrow like this =>
<j`ey> youre hitting it too early
<j`ey> you have to wait for that countdown to finish
<j`ey> and then press esc
<matthiasvonarx> but i assume this whole problem could come from this https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/customize-f-keys-to-work-without-having-to-press-fn-f-keys/87408 since that was the only time i tinkered with the kernel or grub in any way.

<matthiasvonarx> yeah good idea
