Not sure if reliability is actually bad tbh. biggest issue with second hand sales for Apple machine is that they can be locked to an iCloud id and if the machine is stolen the seller won’t be able to remove it from their account

usually Apple hardware has been fairly reliable for me. I’ve used a previous MacBook for ~8 years and my previous phone for ~5 and could’ve used it longer by replacing the battery

Talking about repairs, is the guide for replacing speakers on ifixit not applicable to modern macbooks? I mean it looks like the speakers could be bought from aliexpress and replaced without much effort and do not require full new top case? What am I missing?

there was no externally visible damage so they just put it down as a defect covered under australian consumer law
