<mrnuke_> russell--: if you got to the uboot console, then why not boot an initramfs over tftp?
<russell--> mrnuke_: yes, could have
<russell--> ended up pretty confident in the capture of the first half of flash, the second half with the firmware was mangled variously, but i could be paved over, so no tears there.
<russell--> it* could be
<russell--> it's annoying that you can't switch back and forth easily from openwrt to vendor, the vendor firmware disallows selecting the other partition if it doesn't recognize it as legit, afaict
<russell--> openwrt to vendor, no problem, but vendor to openwrt ...

<Massimo> Hello! I'm trying to flash OpenWRT on my EdgeRouter-4, I don't have a console cable to RJ-45 so I was thinking about using the apparently available JTAG connector. But I've never done this before. Could anyone please indicate if there is a JTAG connector visible? https://imgur.com/a/eG3c9pP
<PaulFertser> Massimo: usually if the device wiki page doesn't say anything about JTAG it means it wasn't discovered/probed. Also, JTAG is usually not that useful for flashing when you have a functional bootloader.
<Massimo> Ah. Guess I'll try to make my own console cable then. Thank you!
<Massimo> However the wiki says there is one on the board (https://openwrt.org/toh/ubiquiti/edgerouter_4) but it looks like the page isn't maintained. I was thinking about filling in the missing things.
<PaulFertser> Massimo: if you need a wiki account, please send me you desired wiki nick and e-mail.
<PaulFertser> s/you/your/
<Massimo> Oh that would be great! :) If it's possible I'll like the username 'massimogg' and my email is massimo@massimogg.xyz.
<hurricos> jow: how far back does ucode compile / is it distributed? I ask because it'd be nice to port some projects to it. My brain has always been too small to understand jshn
<hurricos> wait, I can answer this question myself by digging through package repos
<PaulFertser> Massimo: sure, you should get an e-mail now.
<hurricos> Ooh, not very far back yet
<Massimo> PaulFertser: I did. Thank you!
<svanheule> hurricos: thanks for catching that glob!
<hurricos> of course
* stintel back home after a month
<stintel> must resist to plug in hw and postpone sleep :D
<hurricos> stintel: woo! :^) go to sleep
<hurricos> In general, I'm curious whether ucode will be able to be backported into older package feeds once it's more mature
<hurricos> or whether it relies on some stuff not available earlier
srslypascal has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<philipp64> stintel: so... did you resist?
<philipp64> because I just emailed you and dangowrt a question...
<philipp64> searching via google for "site:openwrt.org /var persistent" doesn't get any useful results that I can tell...
<russell--> mrnuke_: what version of the vendor firmware do you have? and can you share your firmware2 partition?
