<hurricos>
That fucker is consumed by tramp-local-host-p in tramp-sh-handle-write-region which behaves differently IF YOU'RE ON THE LOCALHOST
<hurricos>
it saves buffers DIFFERENTLY
<hurricos>
I AM NOT ON THE LOCALHOST!
<hurricos>
So I did the 127.0.1.1 trick and it worked ;^)
<hurricos>
well, I can copy buffers DOWN now. Let's see up.
<hurricos>
oh fuck yes it works.
<hurricos>
:D
<hurricos>
This whole thing came about only because I didn't want to blow up another AP3825i. They can't be powered both on PoE and on 12V, discoverd that the hard way
<hurricos>
mrnuke_: ok, #15 appears to work for me. I actually get a bit fewer MCU rejections, is that expected?
<hurricos>
yes! there's an error timeout! OK
<hurricos>
I was expecting that based on how the errors were distributed
<hurricos>
Great, I like it. This works, it's functional, I'm going to rebase+merge and we can go about our day
<hurricos>
I wish I had this on the SNIC10e's, I had to manually copy packages using a base64 awk script like a schmuck
<hurricos>
I had to bootstrap that here but it worked in the end

I am currently working on adding a new platform, SoC and board - is the structure with regards to the build system always SoC series -> board or could I for instance do SoC family -> SoC 32-bit / SoC 64-bit -> board so there would be 32-bit and 64-bit variants?
<danieli>
or do you always target 64-bit for chips capable of both?
<danieli>
I am specifically aiming at some Qualcomm IPQ chips
<dwfreed>
if they are 64 bit capable, why not use it?
<danieli>
I recently got a hold of a router to test it out and the vendor used 32-bit for god knows what reason, possibly laziness - thought I'd do a PoC with aarch32 because of that
<\x>
maybe small memory?
<danieli>
I'm not sure how low they go but the one I got a hold of has 512M
<\x>
thats weird
<danieli>
the bottom end does however tend to go really low, though I doubt that for the IPQs
<\x>
though ive seen an ipq60xx device come with a 32-bit OS in it as it only had 128MB ram
<danieli>
yeah I've seen that too, ipq60xx is the one I'm working on right now and I have another board in transit somewhere
<\x>
i hope ipq60xx gets proper support soon
<danieli>
anyway, I suppose my question boils down to the flexibility of the build system and if it breaks with the structure of other chips/boards
<\x>
none of that qsdk based builds
<danieli>
\x: same, they're quite nice even if they can get fairly low-end and have some drawbacks
<danieli>
I don't really mind QSDK in and of itself, but I prefer free software and a minimal base system without bloat
<\x>
theres some other repos that kinda tried having ipq60xx support in them but im not sure how did it go
<danieli>
I've probably dug up most of them by now
Misanthropos has joined #openwrt-devel
<danieli>
working on incorporating similar changes to openwrt/openwrt (upstream) and doing a PoC
<\x>
lean had that axt1800 something repos with like 6 ipq60xx devices or so
<\x>
but that repo is no longer public
<danieli>
yeah that's one of the boards I have, it runs ipq60xx and a bloated 32-bit QSDK build
<danieli>
it's easy to play with since JTAG and UART are easily accessible, and that they do a lot of their work in the open (on GitHub(
<danieli>
)
<\x>
anyway the guy to call is likely robimarko
<\x>
he did work for 807x and 60xx is kinda heavily related
<danieli>
yeah, gl.inet used ipq807x as some sort of dummy platform for it
<danieli>
that may just be remnants from how QCA structured it in their repos though
<danieli>
oh, I did not know that mikrotik announced the hap ax2, that's neat, I'll definitely snatch one when the opportunity arises
<\x>
ehh better wait and know if secureboot is enabled or not
<danieli>
it seems like more boards using IPQ chips are being released in general, so interest probably won't lessen
<\x>
im still on ipq40xx setup in my home, its all running neatly with pr 4721
<\x>
but yup im looking forward to 60xx and such

PaulFertser: iwlwifi (only) learns the regdom from its environment (802.11d), no scanning, no region set --> nothing allowed
<slh>
so if one of your neighbours operates a misconfigured AP, with a wrong regdom hint, you're pretty much fscked
<PaulFertser>
slh: is that enforced on firmware (ucode) level?
<slh>
yes, on the ucode level
<PaulFertser>
And yet apparently \x got an AP working on 5 GHz.
<slh>
at least on linux (afaik the windows driver has more functionality in the driver)
<slh>
I only remember on 2.4 GHz, but maybe on the shortrange channels without DFS (still, very sceptical about that)
<slh>
(I do have ax200 and ax210 myself, however only using it in STA mode and not using OpenWrt - Debian with kernel v5.19; not quite equipped to do testing over the next few weeks either)
<\x>
i still cant open 160MHz channels even with a tweaked regdb
<\x>
PH regdb only allows non-DFS and non AUT0-BW on 149+
<robimarko>
Doesnt it use FW regdb?
<\x>
looks like it
<\x>
but yeah credits to the tilde guy
<\x>
tilde arrow
<\x>
i cleaned up the patch a little bnecause openwrt already has the noscan thing
<\x>
it is not needed
<PaulFertser>
\x: please give a bit more context. What card is running the AP there and with what width?
<\x>
ax200 m.2
<\x>
2x 80MHz
<\x>
can see first image in lspci
<PaulFertser>
And not doing the scan is enough for it to run an AP on 5 GHz?
<\x>
can also see the cleaned up patch from tildearrow
<\x>
openwrt by default cant do it
<\x>
tildearrow guy talks about it in his blog
<\x>
so what he did is he made hostapd to do a scan first
<PaulFertser>
Hah, that's sick but potentially useful. Thanks for sharing!
<robimarko>
Ahh, so it forces a s scan to learn the regulatory domain
<\x>
for patching hostapd on openwrt his patch has some redundant parts that openwrt is already useful
<\x>
using*
<\x>
so you can just remove those ;)
<\x>
but yes i still cant try 160MHz channels
<\x>
but yes this guy's patch is very cool
<\x>
im happy with 2x2 80MHz ax

robimarko: you think this can be made to also do a 2.4GHz scan to learn its regdb? since the way it works right now is that it cant open itself if theres no other 5GHz AP around. and hell they need to even be configured correctly lmao
<PaulFertser>
\x: the Intel dev says that feature works because it's needed for P2P.
<PaulFertser>
Guess DFS isn't allowed for P2P anyway so no wonder the necessary bits are not implemented.
<\x>
but its nice now that we can atleast kinda enable 5GHz AP now but yeah it does come with a ton of caveats
<\x>
#1, need 5GHz APs broadcasting around #2, they need to be set properly regdb and things

mt7521 DSA backport fixes sent. I've tested both master and 22.03, I tried to be thorough in my tests: from what I can tell it fixes the issue and doesn't break everything else.
<f00b4r0>
i wonder if I should try to backport all the way to 5.4 for 21.02 which is also affected

blogic: qualcomm has a QSDK repo where your name is in the maintainer field, did they just copy another target without cleaning it or have you done any recent work on ipq60xx that they built on top of?
<hurricos>
It takes two solid months to get to you but it seriously crushes. Outruns the CPU on my P1020, I have to try it again on a P1010 which is clocked higher
<hurricos>
something like 1.2, 1.3Gbit practical
<hurricos>
and that's only one way, not sure if nbd has changed this but the transmit queue takes more CPU to deal with

hmm, I might be wrong about 160MHz.
<hurricos>
might just be a wave2-ath10k limitation :P
<\x>
but yeah this is only something new that was discovered today
<\x>
maybe tildearrow guy will do a pull req to hostapd or something
<\x>
its just visual issue anyway
<\x>
it works underneath
<\x>
hurricos: how about rz616, mt7922 ?
<hurricos>
I'm going to guess that all of the client-targetd silicon has been broken badly
<hurricos>
but let me go buy one and find out
<hurricos>
Oh, I don't see any available
<hurricos>
RZ608 is crap, though
<\x>
they are already out
<\x>
likely ebay and taobao
<hurricos>
Not finding any on eBay.
<\x>
hmmm
<\x>
is there a way to delay starting of an AP?
<\x>
or a radio

nbd: *sigh*. I'm glad to have lost a day of work on this. That'll teach me to look more carefully at the log
<nbd>
given that the changes are upstream, i think backporting them still makes sense, but we have to get the issues fixed that led to the revert...
<f00b4r0>
well the changes are upstreaming because they fix a bug in the first place :)
<f00b4r0>
s/ing//
<nbd>
yes
<f00b4r0>
i note that I backported less than what was reverted. I'm trying to see if I can reproduce the issue mentioned, because I didn't notice anything wrong
<f00b4r0>
i haven't checked throughput though

what is the point of the /lib/firmware/ath11k-macs that some variants of /etc/hotplug.d/firmware/10-ath11k-caldata writes?

I found some code that suggests it's related to custom MACs in the ath11k driver, looks like it's an additional WMI command that has never been upstreamed to Linux
