Mangix neggles, yeah seems newer cards dont need that external 5V anymore, instead they pull everything from the 3.3V, having external 5V is kind of nice though like in that qca9886 that ive got, this lets you power the card's rf amplifier externally so that it doesnt overload the 3.3V from the slot

thernal pads and some smol heatsinks can help but yeah if those still fails then active cooling I guess

but yeah if you stacked two 10W mPCIe cards on a single splitter+asmedia switch riser card you'd absolutely need a fan
