<ynezz> jow: KanjiMonster: hauke: https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/pull/13646 (PKG_CVE_FIXES and PKG_CVE_IGNORE) ACK? It looks fine to me and I would merge it, so interested parties can start using it, but since its going to have some impact, it would be quite expensive to roll back if we find out later, that it was a wrong decission.
<ynezz> so thus I'm bothering you for 2nd pair of eyes (or anyone here of course), thanks!
<mrkiko> Is it the case lastest snapshot is using auto-expanding overlay to span across entire eMMC ? It seems to me not the case but I read about this

<Ansuel> robimarko the idea of moving backports to a repository might be a good idea considering we can then use the release feature to generate tar from it
<Ansuel> and we would just create a branch for each release???
<robimarko> Ansuel: Exactly, because currently updating backports depends on somebody having acess to sources.openwrt.org to push the tarball
<Ansuel> it's ok since we don't update the backports that much but it's an improvement for sure
rua has joined #openwrt-devel
<robimarko> It would also open a route for 3rd parties to contribute
<robimarko> I am looking into ath11k to add NVMEM support and they made the whole logic even more complex than before
<Borromini> is there any consensus on 6.6 btw?
<Borromini> the gist from those e-mails seemed to be 'let's move to 6.6 already'
goliath has joined #openwrt-devel
<Ansuel> Yes but no target actually made a request or said that 6.6 is mandatory so we are delaying that... at least I can see many target are switching to 6.1
<robimarko> We are starting to seriously lag behind
<Ansuel> robimarko btw what is the problem with nvmem and ath11k?
<robimarko> Just the number of possible options they are fetching for
<robimarko> And inherent relyance on the struct firmware

<ynezz> robimarko: btw welcome on board, finally :)
<ynezz> does anyone have an idea why they stopped providing the https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/backports/stable/v6.6.15/backports-6.6.15.tar.xz ?
<ynezz> was OpenWrt just the only user, that nobody else noticed this for such a long time
<robimarko> ynezz: Thanks
<robimarko> Basically, the upstream backports project kind of went dead
<robimarko> And then nbd did the last couple of updates for OpenWrt
<robimarko> But its on his GH repo, and now I did an update to 6.6 and its on my GH repo
<ynezz> so basically the OpenWrt is the only user?
<robimarko> Looks to be the case
<robimarko> As the upstream backports project is still on 5.15
<ynezz> yep, so I've jumped on https://web.libera.chat/#kernel-backports and asked there, so lets see
<robimarko> Might as well ask hauke here
<ynezz> but if there are no users, then maybe it really makes sense to fork it and call it a day?
<ynezz> just it would perhaps make sense to first find out, what is a blocker before forking :p
<robimarko> That was my suggestion, so that we have an actual GIT repo with backports in OpenWrt org
<ynezz> in the last meeting, there was an idea to drop backports and use drivers from the same kernel version
<robimarko> That would make it even more painfull to have newer WLAN features
<robimarko> Or we would need to speed up adopting new kernels
<ynezz> which you want to do anyway, otherwise the lag makes the backporting and maintenance crazy
<robimarko> Yes, I am all for faster kernel adoption because working on 5.15 is not fun
<robimarko> It will be a mess when different targets use the same driver but different kernel versions
<ynezz> yes, thats a good point, so actually it doesn't make sense and backports are actually needed
<robimarko> Yeah, cause I dont know how would we deal with different kernels and basically different driver versions
<ynezz> it would be the mess
<Ansuel> well for some time the backport project was actually to have newer version on older kernel
<Ansuel> so it was more a forwardport ahahah
<Ansuel> still not so sure if it might be a good idea to follow kernel version for wifi, it gives us flexibility to have the 2 thing separated and permit us to update them at different times
<robimarko> Exactly, dropping backports would make it even more painful to develop WLAN features
<robimarko> And different feature sets because of different kernels

<Borromini> ok :)
<Borromini> i think i made the right call with the phy_package function replacements in the MDIO patch, but I'm not wholly sure.
<Borromini> i only adapted those functions, not the MDIO ones (it looks to me like those can stay as is)

<Jimbot_> hi all. I have some received GPL source code from the vendor for a device I'm trying to add support for. Is there a preferred place to store this long term? I've seen a few dead links in the forums...
<Mangix> swalker: What I hate about it is that because sox hasn't been updated, Debian carries 28 patches for various things
<Mangix> It makes sense to port most of them.
