ChanServ changed the topic of #panfrost to: Panfrost - FLOSS Mali Midgard & Bifrost - Logs https://oftc.irclog.whitequark.org/panfrost - <macc24> i have been here before it was popular
<hyrc>
there's... some progress with exynos? i see a postmarketos guy got a boot on 9820
<hyrc>
beefy mali gpus there. make me wooshy.
<hyrc>
i mean, am i wrong or what. putting one of those cheap samsungs on usb, rendering to a buffer, streaming it to the host
<hyrc>
that seems, maybe fune?
<HdkR>
GL with that. Sounds like a nightmare
<HdkR>
There's already bottlenecks rendering on a GPU over Thunderbolt. Trying to say just some 5,10,20gbit USB would be even worse.

<hyrc>
i do it on android just fine with scrcpy
<hyrc>
play emulators running on android device, on my main pc
<hyrc>
uses hwenc though
<HdkR>
That's a significantly better solution than communicating with a GPU over a USB bus
<hyrc>
mhm, and it could be done in linux, not android
<hyrc>
i mean it's great with the valhall progress and all
<hyrc>
but there's really nice bifrost gpus out there for under 100 euro
<HdkR>
Work is still happening on all fronts. It's not like Valhall launched and all work on Bifrost and Midgard stopped.
<hyrc>
:)
<hyrc>
fronts is a good word, sir :)
<HdkR>
The fronts, backs, and sides shall all be worked on. The tops and bottoms are graciously ignored.
<HdkR>
Is this another GPU revision where it has some abusive errata?
<robmur01>
doesn't seem so - at least from the published ones, only one workaround that applies to r0p1 that doesn't also apply to r1p0, and apparently it's only a visual artefact issue anyway
<robmur01>
T830 is just that bit more powerful than T820 on account of being wider
<HdkR>

I've got a H6 TV using the Mali-T720 running Armbian bullseye + Linux 5.15. When I unplug and reconnect the HDMI, the picture doesn't return - at least thats the case under X. Known bug? Is there a fix?
<robmur01>
danboid: HDMI is an HDMI (or possibly display) controller problem, not a GPU one - #linux-sunxi might be a better place to find people who know more
<danboid>
robmur01, OK thanks
<daniels>
also you probably need to do xrandr --auto
<HdkR>
TIL about --auto
<HdkR>
that's super handy
<steev>
same, that beats rebooting
<robmur01>
I suspect there might be some common dw-hdmi issues, since Rockchip boards tend to be pretty flaky about hotplugging displays as well
<macc24>
robmur01: it worked for me on rk3399???

trying to figure out how to get mediatek gpu devfreq bindings on mainline
<alyssa>
2 regulators, 4 clocks, and 5 power domains -- because of course...

<robmur01>
at least you only have to actually control 1 clock and 2 regulators, by the looks of it
<robmur01>
TBH those clocks do smell of "let the consumer driver ungate half the clock tree because hierarchical clock drivers are hard"...

<alyssa>
this is making my head hurt
<alyssa>
and convincing me the downstream code is doing something subtly wrong that I probably shouldn't cargo cult
<robmur01>
yup, the upstream clock driver seems to imply that MFG_BG3D is a child of MFG_PLL_SEL, whose parents are MFG_REF_SEL and APMIXED_MFGPLL
<alyssa>
this is my impression as well (over at #linux-mediatek on libera)
* robmur01
doesn't fancy digging into downstream to figure out which one it's actually DVFSing... oh look it's dinnertime!
<robmur01>
but I'll guess at something horrible involving not being able to propagate rate changes up from the leaf clock in a sane manner

heh, so i took kevin's keyboard out because i was modifying its chassis
<macc24>
and that keyboard is so floppy
<macc24>
i saw paper sheets that were stiffer than that keyboard
<HdkR>
Some 325 GSM cover stock would probably be stiffer yea.
