Actually, looks like my benchmark was invalid as I had some local config wrong (stuff chewing up CPU.) Once I corrected this, it's 64 fps instead of 5 fps. Pretty nice!
<cphealy>
And I was still wrong. There was another process chewing up CPU. Now it's 68 fps with an idle system...

Adding to the above, the overall glmark2-es2 score went up by 2% on the G52 between Mesa 22.0-rc2 and Mesa git latest.

Not only did the buffer tests improve, but other tests did too.

It also fixed a bunch of piglits, so I'm convinced I should've done that all along :-p

you mean that by fixing more piglit tests, panfrost will become faster? :)

Alright, it's Valhall o'clock :-D
<alyssa>
Rebasing my Valhall series
<alyssa>
139 commits on top of upstream Mesa. And is only currently useful for kmscube.
<alyssa>
Ok, so *maybe* there's some work remaining ;-)
<alyssa>
Valhall code gen is surprisingly decent already
<alyssa>
All those Bifrost optimization paid off... for not Bifrost ;-p

now what are the chances of Valhall work somehow making Midgard better, to close the circle? :D

Does Collabora ever take on interns? I'm currently in university, but very passionate about C++ and graphics. I'm just wondering if there's any chance of me being taught some stuff about i.e driver development at Collabora.
<macc24>
Didgy: they do
<macc24>
literally one click from their webpage to find out
<Didgy>
That's good to hear. I'm likely to apply for a summer internship then I guess
<Didgy>
Bringing Vulkan drivers to Linux ARM devices is one of my interests after finishing my education.
<macc24>
by the time you finish your education there might be nothing to do xD
<cphealy>
This is SW, there's never nothing to do...

Seems like there's always coming new mobile GPU architectures. Not all of them are easily available to Linux though.
pendingchaos has joined #panfrost
<Didgy>
The Qualcomm Adreno GPUs do not yet have support for Vulkan on Linux, right? My impression is that Qualcomm doesn't really support the notion anyways.
<cphealy>
I never saw Vulkan working on Linux with the Adreno GPU I was working with. I was working with A200 though.. ;-)
<Didgy>
And even if you have basic Vulkan support, there's a myriad of extensions you can implement to improve performance for apps that take advantage of them.
<macc24>
Didgy: adrenos *do* have vulkan via turnip
<macc24>
and it runs quite well
<macc24>
good enough to play some terraria
<macc24>
offtopic to this channel too

just wishes qcom supported "not crashing" on Windows...

I'll continue this in #moocows I guess?

fixed a bunch of texture related bugs on valhall, and fixed a rebase issue
<alyssa>
still at 97.8% pass rate for deqp-gles2
<alyssa>
most of the fails should go away once I wire up the blitter and support cube maps
<daniels>
Didgy: yep we certainly do internships, please do read & apply, feel free to msg me if you want more details

apparently I had helpfully disabled optimizations to get that 97.8% pass rate.
<alyssa>
...still counts ;-p
<macc24>
:O !!!
* alyssa
really needs to wire up the blitter
<alyssa>
(once that's done, basic wayland desktop will be functional ... xorg probably would be too if I could figure out how to get it to start .. xwayland is ok ..)
<macc24>
alyssa: ........is that on valhall?
<alyssa>
macc24: yes
<alyssa>
what else would it be on
<macc24>
utgard :D
<alyssa>
#lima is that way -->
<macc24>
:
<macc24>
:|
<macc24>
alyssa: it could also be on t620 or g71
<alyssa>
macc24: are you saying you would rather have t620 drivers than drivers for the mt8192
