ChanServ changed the topic of #panfrost to: Panfrost - FLOSS Mali Midgard & Bifrost - Logs https://oftc.irclog.whitequark.org/panfrost - <macc24> i have been here before it was popular
<alyssa> me: I need to stop writing code and just land the hundreds of patches I have out of tree
<alyssa> also me: *writes another dozen patches today*

<mriesch> on my rk3568 (with mali g52) the output of glmark2 "conditionals" seems to be incorrect. i think this issue was mentioned a while ago in this channel, but i couldn't find a corresponding issue in the gitlab. is this behavior known?
<macc24> is changing governors when the gpu is off supposed to cause serror?
<macc24> and a subsequent kernel panic
<alyssa> ...no
<macc24> huh
<alyssa> there is a very good reason why devfreq+mediatek+panfrost is not supported.
<macc24> it's not on mediatek!
<macc24> :D
<alyssa> bah
* alyssa observes that making Bifrost fast is a lot harder than making Midgard fast
<macc24> it's just a G31 that damn thing doesn't have enough silicon space to be cursed :D
<macc24> alyssa: kernel panic log -> https://bpa.st/G3RQ
<alyssa> do i look like kernel
* macc24 shrugs
<alyssa> mmind00: ^ does that look familiar
<macc24> looks like setting governor to performance then doing gpu stuff crashes it, but doing gpu stuff and then setting governor to performance works
<macc24> it's a rk3326 machine
<macc24> could the fact that kernel boots up init in under 0.4 seconds be related?

<steev> macc24: is your default set to !performance ?
<steev> i've got a g31 here (radxa zero) and if i don't use performance for the cpu.... the gpu performance seems to go garbage
<HdkR> Looks like some tasty code, yep

<steev> macc24: nope, 5.16.10
<macc24> steev: odd
<steev> i mean, the gpu devfreq stuff is simple_ondemand too, but if i use cpufreq driver that isn't performance... i get all kinds of weirdness
<steev> e.g. chromium has weird drawing artifacts
* macc24 checks the soc on that board
<macc24> OH amlogic
<macc24> that explains some things
<steev> don't judge me
<steev> getting hands on an rpi is neigh impossible, and this is same form factor but more performant
<macc24> oh no i'm not judging /you/
* macc24 has never seen an amlogic chip in her life
<macc24> :p had no idea what you were talking about... for me on rk3326 it's ok, maybe amlogic weirdness???
<steev> could be, i saw a patch somewhere (kodi? libreelec?) that removes lower cpufreq opps
<steev> but it wasn't afaik, for the radxa zero

<macc24> steev: and i can't get radxa zero in a reasonable timeframe...
<steev> yeah... i ordered mine from ameridroid in november? december? didn't get them til end of jan, beginning of feb
<steev> but i have 4 of them here, they're definitely nice little boards, aside from the mesa breakage that i need to find the time to bisect
<macc24> it's literally not listed anywhere on shops in country where i live
<steev> i ordered my first ones from aliexpress? allchina? something like that
<steev> shipping was surprisingly fast honestly
<steev> i think i ordered it on monday and got it friday
<macc24> huh
<macc24> >$45
<macc24> that's... $30 too much

<steev> you can always grab a pi4 off ebay for 300
<macc24> lol dude i don't have a lot of money so if i end up buying something i better use the hell out of it
<steev> i use mine as build servers... and for work
<steev> are they the fastest? no. do they have fast emmc? also no.
<steev> but they are tiny, and can be overclocked to 2GHz so
<macc24> i used a xeon x5460 machine as my dev machine and the build times of cadmium were counted in hours lol
<steev> if it's something i truly can't wait for the build to finish, i use a VM on the M1
<steev> it takes like 5-10 minutes to build a kernel deb, without ccache
<macc24> nowadays i have a dual socket xeon x5650 machine, hosting a 20 thread vm that i use to compile everything
<macc24> :v with a long usb cable connected to usb switch with integrated hub and i'm just passing the thing through into vm
<macc24> for some time i was considering clustering up most of my machines to compile stuff
<macc24> couldn't figure out cross compiling in distcc tho
<alyssa> it's merge day :]
* macc24 notes down current HEAD in case she notices any breakage on G72
<alyssa> macc24: i mean it's been merge day ;-p
