<kaazoo> Any idea why dm-crypt seems to be missing in 6.5.0-1009-apple-arm ? Works fine with 6.5.0-1008-apple-arm
<kaazoo> $ find /lib/modules/6.5.0-100* -name dm-crypt.ko
<kaazoo> /lib/modules/6.5.0-1008-apple-arm/kernel/drivers/md/dm-crypt.ko
<kaazoo> It really doesn't seem to be in the linux-module package:
<kaazoo> return nothing, while it has the file in linux-modules-6.5.0-1008-apple-arm
<kaazoo> dpkg -L linux-modules-6.5.0-1009-apple-arm | grep dm-crypt.ko

<tobhe[m]> oh I think john mentioned that there is now an extra-packages deb. is it in there maybe?
<tobhe[m]> diff between 1008 and 1009 looks small
<kaazoo> ah, there is linux-modules-extra-6.5.0-1009-apple-arm
<tobhe[m]> oh it might be missing from the inclusion list
<tobhe[m]> changed * to an explicit list and I don't see drivers/md/
<tobhe[m]> looks like it is in modules-extra
<kaazoo> OK, now it works
<kaazoo> $ find /lib/modules/6.5.0-1009-apple-arm/ -name dm-crypt.ko
<kaazoo> /lib/modules/6.5.0-1009-apple-arm/kernel/drivers/md/dm-crypt.ko
<kaazoo> thanks!
<tobhe[m]> np!
<kaazoo> I was messing around with a self-built zfs-dkms package for ZFS 2.2, which tried to remove existing kernel package, because it already provides 'zfs-dkms'. I hit enter too soon and realized that it remove kernel packages because of this conflict.
<tobhe[m]> nice!
<tobhe[m]> the 23.10 installer also added back zfs support. I hope we can get that to work soon to make disk encryption and zfs setups easier
<kaazoo> Perhaps I should just upgrade to Mantic.
<kaazoo> I planned to reinstall my system in order to switch to ZFS on LUKS for root. A bit less a hassle than built-in ZFS encryption.

<Mapi> Hi, is there a way to update 23.04 to 23.10?
<tobhe[m]> hi Mapi, I think updates aren't officially enabled yet (this is on Ubuntu, not us). Until then you can use do-release-upgrade -d to upgrade manually
<Mapi> Ok I was missing the '-d' argument, it worked! Thanks a lot!

<tobhe[m]> worth noting: you might need to update the ppa in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ from lunar to mantic by hand. do-release-upgrade doesn't do that automatically (for some reason)
