<kaazoo> Hi. There seems to be a dependency problem on noble:
<kaazoo> The following packages have unmet dependencies:
<kaazoo> linux-asahi-arm-tools-6.12.0-1001 : Depends: libpython3.12t64 (>= 3.12.7) but 3.12.3-1ubuntu0.3 is to be installed
<kaazoo> E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
<kaazoo> I've updated the install instructions for Steam and its dependencies at https://kernelpanik.net/vulkan_and_steam_on_ubuntu_asahi/ . There is also a prepared FEX root FS based on oracular for download now. Please try out and give feedback.
<kaazoo> If the packages work fine for others, I would like to move them into the main PPA.
<kaazoo> What's the best way to deliver the FEX root FS? It's in tar.gz format and around 600 MB in size. Can we perhaps host the download on https://ubuntuasahi.org/ ? Or can we host it on GitHub?

<kaazoo> Would be nice to also have a CI job somewhere (e.g. on gitlab.com) that automatically builds the image when new mesa packages are available. I could set that up.

<tobhe> hm. ci job sounds good, we might be able to do that on github or even on launchpad
<tobhe> it would be a big package but I think that would still be the preferred way to distribute it
<tobhe> because that way we can handle it as a dependency
<tobhe[m]> john-cabaj: linux-asahi-arm-tools-6.12.0-1001 : Depends: libpython3.12t64 (>= 3.12.7) but 3.12.3-1ubuntu0.3 is to be installed
<tobhe[m]> on noble
<john-cabaj[m]> Ah man, is the copying binaries not going to work anymore?
<john-cabaj[m]> I did update on a Noble machine, I think.
<tobhe[m]> I guess we could relax the requirement on both
<john-cabaj[m]> Won’t be the last time this kind of thing happens.
<tobhe[m]> we have plenty of those in mesa
<john-cabaj[m]> But I don’t think we’ve centered on a strategy for keeping up releases. There’s a bit of a break with the Ubuntu and Fedora philosophy there.
<tobhe[m]> in the case of mesa we have no choice because snaps
<tobhe[m]> for the kernel we will just try to maintain the LTS and latest I guess until it becomes a problem
<john-cabaj[m]> Yeah
<john-cabaj[m]> Will have to modify the tools package then, you think?
<tobhe[m]> i'd just drop the python version down to >= 3.12.3 for the next oracular upload
<tobhe[m]> shouldn't break oracular and will resolve the apt issue in noble\

<tobhe[m]> newest box64 release also sounds exciting
<tobhe[m]> looks like they finally added support for x86 emulation without 32 bit arm
