<bamse> robclark: it's a gen 1 with a690 and possibly some more juice
<HdkR> Isn't an a690 just an overclocked a680? :)
<HdkR> aka, more juice.
<bamse> there's more bits in the cake as well...
<HdkR> oo, delicious
<bamse> iirc a680 has 2mb graphics ram and 690 4mb
<bamse> or rather iiuc
<HdkR> Oh huh
<steev> mb?
<bamse> megabytes
<steev> that seems... rather low
<HdkR> 8cx Gen 3 gives a bit more :P
<bamse> 8cx gen 3 seems to come with the same a690
<HdkR> Same GPU but the with a 60% performance improvement? Bad marketing?
<bamse> hence the "iiuc", because it's not clear to me just yet
<bamse> still doing lower level stuff...
<steev> will they be in "good" stuff that will last more than a year though?
<HdkR> hmmm
<steev> as in... companies selling the devices for more than a year
<robclark> I guess a690 is same sub-gen as a660.. a few reg values I'd need to confirm with some cmdstream but probably just a few line mesa patch to add a690... haven't looked at kernel side
<robclark> (but.. hmm.. I've no idea about getting cmdstream traces on windows.. if there is no a690 thing that can run android..)
<robclark> maybe we can find some android blob that can be spoofed into thinking it is on a690
<bamse> robclark: there is downstream software for the automotive "variant" of 8cx gen 3
<bamse> robclark: but i'm certainly not excited about the prospect of trying to run and get something out of it
<bamse> robclark: we'll cross that bridge when we get there
<robclark> I think we can take some educated guesses on a couple things.. which I think leaves just one reg to have to just blindly guess at.. but ofc finding some blob we could at least convince is running on a690 would settle those questions quickly
<robclark> so I mean if you have a userspace img and concoct a chroot... it can work ;-)
<robclark> (ie. on some other device you can run similar version of android on)
<robclark> (then ofc there is kernel.. where idk what is needed.. but probably not too much)
<bamse> it would be qcom's yocto thing...not android
<bamse> no idea how to get the gpu to do stuff with that, but it's quite possible that nico knows
<bamse> will tackle the dpus first and once that's up we can take a look at the gpu again
<bamse> and a large part of that is just a continuation of 8cx gen 1, so landing whatever i've got in flight there seems like a good first step
<HdkR> Was there ever a publicly available 8cx gen1/2/3 dev board even?
<bamse> i was going to say no, but i recently found https://www.inforcecomputing.com/inforce6803
<bamse> gen3 doesn't "exist" yet, so i don't know the answer yet
<HdkR> ah, coming soon
<bamse> it's been in that state for a while
<HdkR> uh oh
<HdkR> "Windows 10 BSP with support for all interfaces" *sigh*
<bamse> yeah, there's no linux offering from qcom on gen1/2
<bamse> not that i'm aware of at least
<HdkR> I got told a few months ago that I should be using the compute series of SoCs. Which was pretty funny since they near impossible to find without Windows :P
<bamse> hoping to change that for gen3...at least to some degree
<bamse> there's still the "all interfaces" part of their windows offering...we won't be able to match that
<robclark> working linux blob would also work.. although how to do it depends on kgsl vs drm/msm .. and might be easiest if you can run on actual hw... but windows, I wouldn't even know where to start tbh
<bamse> robclark: there must be some way to exercise the gpu with their non-android release, i just don't know anything about it
<steev> bamse: looks like it's because we use IRQ_TYPE_LEVEL_HIGH and Sandeep had EDGE_BOTH on whatever device he has

<flowriser> So last night I discovered the most heinous of things on the acer spin 7: it wasn't booting anymore. Except sometimes, sometimes I would be on my main PC trying to figure out what was happening and in some cases after getting stuck in a reboot loop, it would boot fine

<flowriser> The ACPI specs document is not a bad read; I expected so much worse, but it's pretty well done
<flowriser> I take that back ... I thought I am halfthrough but I am barely at page 100

<flowriser> Question: QLMh (Qualcomm Limits Management Hardware) is this required for me to enable on the sc8180x ?
