robclark changed the topic of #aarch64-laptops to: Linux support for AArch64 Laptops (Chrome OS Trogdor Devices - Asus NovaGo TP370QL - HP Envy x2 - Lenovo Mixx 630 - Lenovo Yoga C630 - Lenovo ThinkPad X13s - and various other snapdragon laptops) - https://oftc.irclog.whitequark.org/aarch64-laptops
<steev> colemickens: frozen_cheese[m]: keep in mind that's just the qcom tree, and it may not necessarily have the drivers portion
<frozen_cheese[m]> Hmm... I had assumed that if there was a device tree, there would be drivers ... I'll have to check
<colemickens> <steev> "colemickens: frozen_cheese: keep..." <- because they're being merged elsewhere, or haven't been submitted yet?
<colemickens> surely someone is rebasing driver changes on the qcom/for-next branch? (but also, I'm still getting my head around the development/merge process herE)
<steev> elsewhere. you could use abelvesa's as he said, or just linux-next once it reaches there
<steev> a few days back, bamse described it, you could check the logs https://oftc.irclog.whitequark.org/aarch64-laptops here (i don't recall exactly when)
<steev> 14:30:51 <abelvesa> gabertron: if you want bleeding edge, try this one: https://git.codelinaro.org/abel.vesa/linux.git branch x1e80100-next - 14:32:10 <abelvesa> gabertron: if you want something rc based, use jhovold's one: https://github.com/jhovold/linux/tree/wip/x1e80100-6.10-rc6-gpu (slightly edited to have the correct tree)
<steev> frozen_cheese[m]: ^^ and if you use abelvesa's tree, he has the x1e_defconfig
<steev> man, maybe it's because of the beryl stuff... but github is so friggin slow today
<robclark> abelvesa's tree that is linux-next plus x1 things is likely to be the most bleeding edge.. for gpu it needs a hack because it needs newer fw that (afaict) hasn't been posted anywhere yet (but you could start by just disabling gpu)
<robclark> (for older fw, the hack is just to change gmu_chipid to 0x7050000)
smpl has joined #aarch64-laptops
<steev> is the newer fw on the windows partition?
<steev> oh, right, when we were first starting out with the x13s, we ripped it out of the windows driver
<steev> and by we, i mean qzed
<robclark> steev: probably? I could figure out where to grab the sqe/gmu fw.. I'm just waiting for something to show up on l-f
<steev> the gmu firmware is in one of the dlls in the directory with the graphics .mbn iirc
<steev> ah, .sys - Update A690 firmware from qcdxkm8280.sys
<JensGlathe[m]> Huh. Assigned this to touchpad in my mind
<abby> when you think about it, a fp reader is kinda like a very small touchpad
<steev> clover (whenever you're around again, i guess matrix dropped) i pushed out https://github.com/steev/linux/tree/lenovo-x13s-v6.10-rc7 this is based on johan's rc6, and adds the camss patches from bryan on top of what was already there
<steev> clover: also pushed out lenovo-x13s-linux-6.9.y, which is everything previous, just based on 6.9.8, and with RELR disabled (this mostly affects anyone who has binutils > 2.42 )

<colemickens> anyone know why (some of) the x1e laptops say this: "One drive, up to 1TB M.2 2242 SSD"
<colemickens> It's NVME, how/why would it be limited to 1TB?
<colemickens> oh, haha, I bet that just means in the customizable SKU you can select up to 1TB
<robclark> that would be my guess
<anonymix007[m]> T14s seems to have a M.2 slot (key B) for 5G modem. Would it be possible to connect a second SSD drive to it, or maybe even a different WiFi card? Obviously some kind of adapter would be needed, but key B usually has 2 PCIe lanes and USB.

<jhovold> 1Here's an updated wip branch for the X13s:
<jhovold> Changes include:
<jhovold> - fix camera stream stop (and restart)
<jhovold> - fix intermittent camera sensor probe failures
<steev> i knew as soon as i pushed johan would do a new one
<\[m]> yeah so evil 😄
<\[m]> <robclark> "that would be my guess" <- as I read online that is exactly it
<\[m]> <anonymix007[m]> "T14s seems to have a M.2 slot (..." <- as I read online that is exactly it
<gabertron> colemickens: typically for the m.2 2230 or 2242 or 2250 you can get 1TB sizes, and in the case of 2230 and 2242 you can get 2TB disks -- (oddly nobody seems to make a 2 or 4TB 2250 disk that I can find) -- often due to form factor they have to be single sided m.2 nvme boards, so you can't have chips on both sides.. personally I'm hoping somebody makes a 4TB 2230 which would fit in tons of things and be pretty
<gabertron> useful for tons of things
<colemickens> It seems like the 2TB 2242 aren't terribly expensive. I'll probably pick one up. I think it will be easier for me to install nixos from another arm64 machine, and then iterate in place. And though I'm fine with partitioning/boot mgr/loader etc, I don't want to mess up the Windows install. Somehow I doubt Lenovo is publishing Windows ISO for a clean reinstall.
<steev> gabertron: heat dissipation
<steev> colemickens: they are, but you have to use their tool to create it

<colemickens> frozen_cheese: I'm able to clone it fine `git clone https://git.codelinaro.org/abel.vesa/linux.git -b x1e80100-next`

<JensGlathe[m]> <colemickens> "It seems like the 2TB 2242 aren..." <- A warning out of experience: Those 2TB 2242 SSDs might be sorta cheap (and good), but they usually are 2-sided and won't fit into a slot intended for the SSD. Too thick. But maybe that doesn't count for the WiFi B-Key slot.
cyrinux has joined #aarch64-laptops
<JensGlathe[m]> And those b-key ones with big size seem to be SATA
<JensGlathe[m]> I have one wd sn250 as 2230 and b-key, 2 lanes pcie nvme, but it is 256GB

<steev> jhovold: do you know if there has been any progress on the wifi issues? i've seen it a few times recently, but can't at all pinpoint a reason. usually it's something like, high cpu usage(?) while also being ssh'd in.
<steev> usually the display is off as well.
